Rams Fall to 1-13 After 16-13 Setback to Houston

Posted: 21 Dec 2009 12:35 AM PST

The St Louis Rams lead by 3rd string QB Keith Null dropped another one today. The Texans came out gunning; opening the game with a long pass to Walter. The Texans were unable to get past the Ram's 35 yard line and on 4th and 1 they went for it. But the Rams hold and gain possession on downs. Half way through the game the Rams actually appeared interested in winning. In fact, for maybe the first time this season lady luck even showed us her favor.

The Rams had just completed a short TD pass to Danny Amendola and the clock was clicking down toward the half. A pass to Andre Johnson takes the Texans to the Rams 35 yards line again. This time Chris Brown attempts the field goal and it miraculously hits the uprights and bounces out. The Rams go into halftime up 10-6.

The Texans had pretty much moved the ball at ease in the first half. Time after time Matt Schaub faked the hand off to Ryan and rolled out looking for his favorite receiver Andre Johnson. Time and time again the Rams were fooled by this deception and when Schaub wasn't busy looking for Johnson he might instead mix it up a little and throw to #83 Kevin Walter.

The Rams knew going into this game that the running game would be an insignificant threat, but time after time they bit. However, the one thing I think Coach Spagnuolo can be proud of is the Ram's continuing tough defensive play in the Red Zone. In the first half the Rams held the Texans to a mere 2 field goals.

Coming back form halftime the Rams have the first possession. They go 3 and out, but on the very next drive the Texans fumble the ball. The Rams are on the Texan's 40 yard line and Steven Jackson runs for 8 and then for another five. This is a very key point of the game. The Rams inside the 30 yard line have a very real opportunity to solidify their lead.

Null fades back to pass and is nearly sacked. In desperation he throws the ball down field. The ball is picked by #34 Dominque Barber. Null played a pretty good game, but this would be the closest the Rams would get to the end zone for the remainder of the day.

Starting from their own 17, once again the Texans begin the work of dismantling the Rams secondary. A 20 yards pass to Andre Davis, a 10 yard pass to Joel Dreessen, and another 10 yard pass to Joel Dreessen. Next Schaub sets his sites on the end zone, but Rams Ron Bartell breaks it up. The next pass goes back to Joel Dreessen. Dreessen is initially met by Rams CB Danny Gorrer who misses the tackle and allows him to get down to the Rams 3 yard line.

The Texans line up strong to the left. Walter slips off to the right for a 3 yard touch down reception. Just when a painful but familiar disappointment begins to settle in the pit of my stomach, the Rams come back with a 52 yard field goal. We go into the 4th quarter all tied at 13-13.

The Texans go 3 and out and the Rams, after a nearly muffed punt reception, take over on our own 23. Jackson runs for 12 and then Avery has a catch for 8. The Rams look good. Focused. Kenneth Darby picks up a first down and we are near mid-field. Next Null hits Gibson for 9. Again Darby picks up the first down on a short yardage running play. Then it happened, #98 Barwin comes flying in and creams Null for a big sack. The Rams are forced to punt. Another faked run and a Rams penalty and the Texans take the lead with a 28 yard field goal.

This is it. There is 4:36 left on the clock and we are only down by 3 points. We get the ball on our own 23 and immediately call a screen pass to Steven Jackson who goes for 25. The Rams are hit by an untimely sack and we're back to the 38. It is 4th and 10, 2:39 left on the clock, and both teams have 2 time outs. It doesn't look good, but we have to go for it. But what does Spagnuolo do? He decides to punt the ball. What? I shake my head and watch the Rams kick the ball away. The Texans receive and of course call a running play. The Rams use their first time out. Another running play and Rams call their final time out. A quick first down and the game is over. What? I could see this outcome. Coach Spag and company couldn't? Unbelievable.

Ok, many issues or events could be blamed for this loss. The defensive line's inability to protect Null is a candidate. Or Nulls critical interception at the worst possible moment is definitely another. Perhaps the Ram's gullible defensive secondary? But no matter the recipe for failure, it cannot be topped off with the rank smell of giving up. Spagnuolo threw in the towel which is inexcusable. The Rams have again lost a game they had an opportunity to win. We sink to an even more dismal and unfathomable 1-13.

Chargers Clinch AFC West With Last Second 27-24 Win Over Bengals

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 09:38 PM PST

In early October the San Diego Chargers were left for dead. They had just lost a Monday night home game against the Denver Broncos and were 2-3 while Denver at the time was 5-0. What a difference two months make. Nine weeks later the Chargers are once again AFC West champs after a tough 27-24 win over a grieving Cincinnati Bengals.

The win was the 9th straight for the Chargers, who have had a remarkable turnaround after starting the season looking like it was going to be tough for them just to make a wild card spot. "It's an incredible feeling," star outside linebacker Shawne Merriman said.

Winning the AFC West became official after the Broncos choked in the final seconds against the Raiders. Nate Keading put the final nail in the AFC West coffin for the Broncos when he kicked the Chargers to a win with a 52-yard field goal with three seconds left.

"There was a lot of adrenaline in that kind of situation, coming down to the wire and going for the win," Kaeding said. "Once it came off my foot, I knew it was good, and mayhem ensued from there."

The Bengals were playing a tough game and played tough despite the circumstances. They had lost teammate Chris Henry just a few days ago, and tears flowed freely as the team took a moment of silence along with San Diego at the start of the game.

"The main thing we want people to realize is that Chris is a guy who turned his life around and this football team had done the same thing," Bengals tackle Andre Whitworth said. "He signifies what we are."

The loss for Cincy means they once again have to wait another week to try to officially win the AFC North. They also have yet to clinch a playoff spot in the AFC despite being 9-5 and atop the division past the Steelers and Ravens.

"It was a little empty feeling," Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco said. "It was bigger than football without him. Today I played with an extra set of hands, an extra set of legs and an extra heart." Ochocinco had a big day playing for his former teammate, as he caught 3 passes for 79 yards and a score.

Philip Rivers was 24-for-38 for 308 yards with three touchdowns and two picks. "We just did what we had to do to get it done," said Rivers. The Chargers improved to 17-0 in December since 2006.

The question now is – can they play that well in January and maybe beyond.

Steelers Losing Streak Ends on Wild Last Play in 37-36 Victory Over Packers

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 08:39 PM PST

So many times this season the Steelers defense has cost them in the fourth quarter. Sunday at home in maybe the wildest game in Heinz Field history, Ben Roethlsiberger and the offense bailed them out. Led by a frantic final drive down 36-30, the Steelers pulled out their most memorable win of 2009, winning on the final play of the game to top the Green Back Packers 37-36 to end their five game losing streak.

The game-winner came when Roethlisberger threw a perfect pass to the end zone from the Green bay 18 that Mike Wallace pulled in, looking like Santonio Holmes last year in the Super Bowl. The feet were down, and the play was ruled a catch and a score, giving the Steelers the win after Jeff Reed nailed the extra point with no time remaining.

"The way the game ended was incredible, especially that last play," center Justin Hartwig said. "It was obviously pretty reminiscent of the Super Bowl."

It was an unreal day for Roethlisberger, who set Steelers records with 503 yards passing and three touchdowns on 29 of 46 passing. He is the first Steelers QB in team history to throw for 500 yards in a game. Down 36-30, the QB kept that final Steelers drive going by finding Holmes for 32 yards on a fourth-and-7 play and Heath Miller for 30 on third-and-15.

Things looked like a lost cause when he threw incomplete from the 18 with :04 seconds left. But then the next play he was able to buy time, and threw for Wallace, who made the catch in front of Packer Josh Bell in the end zone to win the game. “The guys were coming back to the huddle worn out, linemen, receivers, everybody," Roethlisberger said. "We didn't quit. Everybody believed we could do it."

Despite the win and putting up 537 yards, the team was one play from giving it away again. They allowed the Packers back into the game with 22 fourth quarter points, including a 24-yard touchdown with 2:06 to go to James Jones after Mike Tomlin tried a foolish onside kick that failed with the Steelers up 30-28.

Packer QB Aaron Rodgers threw for 383 yards and three touchdowns, picking on William Gay all day, and using Jermichael Finley who had 9 catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. The Steelers built a 24-14 lead entering the fourth quarter before the Packers came storming back.

Reed was good on three field goals to give the Steelers the 30-28 lead with 3:58 left. Then though Tomlin, who must have felt this defense could not stop the Pack, tired an onside kick. It would have worked, but Ike Taylor touched the ball two yards short of it going 10 yards, and the Packers had the ball at the Steelers 39. Rodgers and the team then went to work, scoring on the pass to Jones and hitting a two-point conversion to go up 36-30 before Big Ben’s heroics won the game.

Overall, this was the type of effort that was expected by a team that finally played desperate. Of course the 22-point fourth quarter by the Pack was a concern, but what else is new. The team still has a very outside shot at the playoffs, and today was a step in that direction. Now they need to do it two more weeks and simply see what happens.

Late Russell TD Pass Boosts Raiders Past Broncos 20-19

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 07:56 PM PST

Chaz Schilens (#81)

The game Sunday between the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos at Invesco Field had some interesting twists to it. Twist #1 being the physicality of the game itself. Twist #2 was that the Broncos’ run defense fell apart at the seams. The third – and most unusual – was that the Raiders used three quarterbacks in the game, with the unlikely hero being JaMarcus Russell. He would come into the game in the fourth quarter to throw a game-winning, 10-yard touchdown pass to Chaz Schilens with 35 seconds left, allowing Oakland to pull off the upset, edging Denver 20-19.

The first quarter was all Denver as they commenced the scoring on a pair of Matt Prater field goals (23 and 43 yards, respectively), but Oakland would rebound as two minutes into the second quarter, Michael Bush scored on a 23-yard run, which put Oakland up 7-6; a pair of Sebastian Janikowski field goals would give Oakland a 6-point lead at halftime.

With the Broncos ahead 16-13 in the closing minutes, Brandon Stokley hauled in a pass from Kyle Orton and raced 63 yards before being horse-collared by Routt at the Oakland 4. The penalty saved the game-clinching touchdown and gave the Broncos the ball at the 2. Once again, the Broncos couldn’t punch it in from close. They settled for Matt Prater’s fourth field goal that made it 19-13 and left the Raiders within a touchdown with less than six minutes left.

After Prater made it 19-13, the Raiders went three-and-out and punted with four minutes left. But the Broncos also went three-and-out and punted it back to Oakland with 3:29 left. Then, the Raiders came up with a series of big plays.

Louis Murphy drew a 32-yard pass interference flag on cornerback Andre’ Goodman on second-and-25 and tight end Tony Stewart caught an 11-yard pass from Russell on fourth-and-10 from the 43 just before the 2-minute warning. After a false start moved them back to the 10-yard line with 39 seconds left, Schilens ran a crossing route, caught Russell’s pass at the 2 and broke a tackle from rookie Alphonso Smith for the winning score.

Charlie Frye, J.P. Losman and Russell combined to go 14-of-29 for 102 yards with a touchdown by Russell and an interception by Frye; Orton went 19-of-34 for 278 yards with a TD. Bush led the Raiders rushing attack with 133 yards and a TD on only 18 carries while Darren McFadden added 74 yards on 12 carries; Knowshon Moreno led the Broncos with 42 yards on 19 carries.

Schilens led the Raiders receivers with 5 receptions for 37 yards and a score; Brandon Marshall led the Broncos with 7 receptions for 73 yards and a TD while Brandon Stokley caught 2 for 67 yards; Tony Scheffler caught a pair for 48 yards. Oakland (5-9) plays again next Sunday when they travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns while Denver (8-6) travels to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia Eagles – also next Sunday.

Seahawks Fall Flat in 24-7 Home Setback to Tampa Bay

At the half, they went into the locker room nursing a four-point lead. At the end, they went back in limping after falling flat on their faces and losing the game in the second half to a 12-loss team.

Neither Seattle nor Tampa Bay played strongly in the first half, nearly trading blunder for blunder.

On the first pass play of the game for the Buccaneers (2-12), rookie quarterback Josh Freeman was picked off by Deon Grant.

Bucs kicker Connor Barth bounced a 38-yard field goal off the right upright.

Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck fumbled away a possession for the Seahawks (5-9) and on the team's next offensive series, a botched snap on what would have been a 21-yard chip shot for kicker Olindo Mare killed a scoring opportunity.

Later in the first half, Hasselbeck tossed an interception.

Despite the miscues and headaches, Seattle took a 7-3 lead into halftime thanks to a 29-yard scoring strike from Hasselbeck to tight end John Carlson with 4:33 to go in the second quarter. The touchdown would end up being Seattle's last highlight of the game.

In the second half, Seattle couldn't get anything going on offense nor defense.

The Seahawks' running game, which had over 100 yards in the first half, died off, as the team fell more and more behind on the scoreboard. No Seattle running back rushed for more than 65 yards in the game.

Matt Hasselbeck, already with one interception on the day, threw three more.

Defensively, the Seahawks gave up 21 second-half points and a total of 24 unanswered for the game. The Bucs' two touchdowns, passes going to running backs Cadillac Williams and Derrick Ward, in the third quarter were the first for team in 11 quarters.

Quarterback Josh Freeman, after his first-quarter interception, grew more confident as the game wore on, finishing with 16 of 26 passes completed, 205 yards through the air and scores.

A major reason Freeman got more comfortable in the pocket was because Seattle couldn't put much pressure on him, failing to bring down the rookie for a sack.

Seattle looks to rebound from its two-game losing streak next weekend on the road as the Seahawks will head to Green Bay to take on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Kickoff is scheduled Sunday for 1:00pm Eastern.

An Un-Impressive Victory! Pats Squeeze Past Bills 17-10

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 05:05 PM PST

The New England Patriots took a major step in wrapping up the AFC East Division on Sunday as they defeated the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium 17-10. Both teams in second place in the Division the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets also lost on Sunday giving the Patriots a 2 game lead in the Division with just 2 games left in the regular season. However if the way that New England performed against Buffalo is any indication of how they will play in the NFL Post Season; expect the Patriots to be eliminated in their first game.

If last week’s win over the Carolina Panthers was “Winning Ugly” then this victory was “Winning With Mediocrity.” New England did just enough Sunday not to lose against an extremely bad team. This loss knocked the Bills out of the NFL Playoffs for the tenth straight season; a mark they share with the Detroit Lions. Yet on Sunday the Patriots would win by just a touchdown. It truly boggles the mind to realize that this is the remnants of the club that went 16-0 in the regular season just two years ago.

The effort out of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was far less than inspiring as he completed 11/23 pass attempts for 115 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The touchdown was thrown to New England wide receiver Randy Moss with 12:34 left in the second. It was a 13 yard pass for a touchdown which gave the Patriots their first lead of the game after kicker Stephen Gostkowski put the ball through the uprights they would be on top 7-3. Moss had 5 receptions for a total of 70 yards and acted after the game as if he had a record breaking day.

New England would get their only other touchdown of the afternoon via the running game as running back Laurence Maroney lept one yard into the end-zone for a touchdown with 24 seconds to play in the first half. With the extra point the Patriots would lead 14-3 at the half.

New England would score for the final time in the third quarter when Gostkowski who may be the most consistent player in a Patriots uniform this season kicked a 30 yard field goal late in the third giving his team a 17-3 lead. However with just 3:02 to play in the game the Bills made things a lot tighter as Buffalo QB Ryan Fitzpatrick threw an 11 yard touchdown pass to Lee Evans.

After Bills kicker Rian Lindell got the ball through the goal-posts the Patriots lead was down to 17-10; however New England held on for the victory. Fitzpatrick actually had a better game than Brady as the Buffalo QB was 17/25 for 178 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

The victory gives the Patriots a 9-5 record for the season and will host Jacksonville next Sunday. Buffalo falls to 5-9 and will play in Atlanta next Sunday.

Big Games By Schaub, Johnson Nearly Wasted; Texans Edge Rams 16-13

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 03:37 PM PST

Kris Brown

A weird thing happened at Edward Jones Dome Sunday when the St. Louis Rams hosted the Houston Texans. First the expected – the Texans outgained the Rams 419-237, had more first downs (22-15) and a minute and twenty seconds more of ball possession time. One would think “easy victory”, right? Not so fast. The Texans did march down the field with relative ease, but they couldn’t hit paydirt when it mattered; a 28-yard field goal by Kris Brown helped Houston escape with the 16-13 win over St. Louis.

The Texans drew first blood on a 27-yard FG by Brown with 3:30 left in the first quarter, but the Rams led at halftime for only the fourth time all season on Keith Null’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Danny Amendola that made it 10-6, and the teams were tied at 13-all after three quarters after Josh Brown’s 52-yard field goal.

Andre Johnson had receptions of 30 and 44 yards on consecutive plays to put the Texans at the St. Louis 12 on the go-ahead drive. Houston settled for a 28-yard field goal by Kris Brown, his third of the game, with 4:36 to go. The Rams had a chance to go ahead, but they opted to punt on 4th-and-10 with 2:28 left in the game; the Texans gave the ball to Ryan Moats who would rush for a first down, icing the game for Houston.

Schaub had an excellent outing, numbers-wise, as he went 28-of-40 for 367 yards with a touchdown while Null went 18-of-27 for 173 yards with a TD and an interception. Moats led the Texans with 46 yards rushing on 13 carries while Steven Jackson led the Rams with 82 yards on 20 carries while leading the team in receptions with 4 for 41 yards.

Johnson had a huge game, catching 9 passes for 196 yards while Kevin Walter caught 4 for 42 yards and a TD; Donnie Avery caught 4 for 32 yards in a losing effort for the Rams. Houston (7-7) plays again next Sunday when they travel to Miami to face the Dolphins while St. Louis (1-13) flies to Glendale to take on the Arizona Cardinals – also next Sunday.

Questionable Calls Lead Dolphins to 27-24 OT Loss to Titans

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 02:49 PM PST

This one was a heartbreaker. The Dolphins came back from an 18 point deficit, and pushed the Tennessee Titans into overtime, before losing in the end.

With the loss, the Dolphins playoff hopes are now on "life support" as some Dolphins reporters described it today after the game.

These are the types of games that we have been seeing all year long. The Dolphins play every team tough, only to lose a heartbreaker at the end of the game.

Quarterback Chad Henne had yet another career day, throwing for 349 yards, over 29/46 day. Henne threw for 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions, two of those that really hit the Dolphins hard.

The Dolphins hung tough the whole game, but in the end, it was stupid, and at some points in the game, "ghost" penalties, that did the Dolphins in.

The Dolphins had a total of 8 penalties called against them for a grand total of 60 whopping yards.

Two of those penalties came on defensive tackle Paul Solia for defensive holding. How can defensive holding even happen. Both times the zebras threw the flag on Solia, Solia did next to nothing to deserve the call.

The Dolphins were also called for a bogus unnecessary roughness penalty in overtime coming after the Chad Henne interception to basically seal the deal for the Titans.

While Camarillo could have been a little gentler with the touch on the interceptor, you have to understand that Camarillo was running full burst, and part of the force going into that "penalty" is Camarillo's momentum. If Camarillo wanted to tackle Michael Griffin, he would have.

"I was just told it was a late hit. There was no whistle, the man's down, all his teammates are telling him to get up. I think he starts getting up. Either get him down or knock the ball out. Those are my intentions. It's a physical game. It's been a physical game the whole time. Trying to make a physical play. That's what they called. That's how it goes."

Camarillo's comments make these ref look even worse than they already did!

At certain points in the game, it looked like the referee's had their own personal agenda's! A play that almost confirms my theory is on 3rd and 12, in overtime, Titans ball. They are simply getting the ball closer for Rob Bironas.

Vince Young hands the ball off to Chris Johnson. Johnson gets stuffed, there is a pile dwarfing Johnson at the line of scrimmage, Johnson is still moving the pile though, the ball is out almost a split second before the whistle's are blown. Jason Taylor recovers the ball, and would have returned the fumble for a game winning touchdown.

The referee's on the field ruled the ball dead, and still Titans ball.

Now you would think that these refs would have some common sense, and make sure that they got the play right. After all, there was a pile around Johnson, so how can they be sure when the ball came loose?

Can you guess what happened next? The guys in white and black denied to replay the call, and in turn, screwed the Dolphins, and their playoff chances over.

JT had some comments for the refs after the game:

"I saw in the first half a couple of times when Ricky Williams was running the ball and it looked like we were playing rugby. They were tagging him for five, six, seven seconds and we quick whistle at the end of the game. the ball's out. The game's on the line. It was a quick whistle. The guy's still running. He did it throughout the game, too. There were times when he was in the pile and kept driving his feet and was moving the pile or trying to bounce out of there. Anybody's who's watched Chris Johnson the last 15-16 weeks has seen him come out of those things. That's why you keep playing. Kept clawing at the ball there. That obviously could have been a very big play."

Taylor's words are exactly right, and indicate something is up with these referee's. They did terrible, and botched several crucial calls in some of the most crucial times.

Now it is I guess the Dolphins fault for even putting themselves in position to have the referee's decide the outcome of the game, but this quote pretty much sums the game up:

"It's hard enough to beat 11 Titans," Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder said after the game. "You can't beat 17 Titans. Put that on your sheet."

The Dolphins hurt themselves early on when they let 3 Vince Young passing touchdowns, 2 of them to Justin Gage, occur.

All three of those td's should have never happened, but the secondary let them slip through.

Vontae Davis had a rough day after coming up with an amazing interception on the Titans first drive.

At times, Gibril "Smeagol" Wilson was leaving the rookie on an island, which is not the smartest thing to do in this league, and the Dolphins defense paid for it.

You have to remember that our corners are still rookies, and can't be totally trusted to be left on an island for the whole game. Big plays are bound to happen, and that was one of the deciding factors in this game as well.

Some of the lessons that us fans learned this game was that some of the needs that the Dolphins desperately crave right now are; a big time receiver, a homerun threat like Chris Johnson, and this may be the biggest need of all, some experience for our young players.

There is no doubt in my mind if we played the same game next year, that Henne does NOT throw some of those interceptions, that Henne does NOT lose this game, and that Henne DOES make some of those passes.

Henne will be a complete player in only a few short years, but for now, all this kid needs is some experience, and he will be golden.

Keep your heads high Dolphins, you guys didn't lose to the Titans today, you lost to the Zebras, who thought like zebras today as well.

Late Ryan TD Pass Helps Falcons Edge Jets 10-7

Tony Gonzalez

“Wisdom comes alone through suffering.” – Aeschylus

For New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan, this can be considered a season of learning and growing pains. They (the team) indeed had some high points and some low points, as part of the learning process. The Jets perhaps learned a football lesson in their game on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons at Giants Stadium in that the Falcons have a weapon in tight end Tony Gonzalez, and they’re not afraid to use it. Quarterback Matt Ryan was miondful of that fact as he tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Gonzalez with 1:38 left in the fourth quarter, leading Atlanta to the 10-7 win over New York.

The Jets got on the scoreboard early as James Ihedigbo tipped Michael Koenen’s punt that went 28 yards before it was downed at the Falcons 35. On the Jets’ next play, Sanchez reared back and fired a pretty pass that hit Edwards in stride at the 15. Edwards – a few steps ahead of Christopher Owens – zipped into the end zone for a 7-3 lead with 2:48 left in the opening quarter. The Jets had a chance to increase their lead with a 19-yard field goal with 6:40 left in the half, but Clemens mishandled a low snap and Jay Feely never had a chance to kick.

Looking to make it 10-3, Feely’s 37-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Chauncey Davis with 4:27 left, keeping Atlanta in it. On third-and-9 from their 42, Roddy White had a 16-yard catch and the Falcons moved up 15 more yards on a facemask penalty on Donald Strickland. Jason Snelling followed with a 20-yard run up the middle to the 7. After Snelling’s 1-yard run, Ryan was incomplete to White in the end zone, and again to Gonzalez on a pass that was nearly picked off by Darrelle Revis. With the game on the line, Ryan found Gonzalez at the front of the end zone for the winning score.

Ryan had a mediocre effort as he went 16-of-34 for 152 yards and a TD while Sanchez was 18-of-32 for 226 yards with a TD and 3 interceptions. Jason Snelling led the Falcons rushing attack with 59 yards on 16 carries while Thomas Jones led the Jets with 52 yards on 19 carries.

Jerious Norwood led the Falcons receivers with 2 receptions for 47 yards; Edwards led the Jets receivers with 5 receptions for 105 yards and a TD while Jerricho Cotchery caught 6 passes for 49 yards. Atlanta (7-7) plays again next Sunday when they host the Buffalo Bills in their home finale while New York (7-7) goes to Indianapolis to take on the undefeated Colts – also next Sunday.

Record Setting Day for Harrison and Cribbs Leads Browns to 41-34 Win in K.C.

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 02:17 PM PST

59181817
The Cleveland Browns got there third win of the year today by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City 41-34 for the first time since 1988. The Browns were lead by Josh Cribbs and Jerome Harrison who both set records today. Cribbs led the way for the Browns with two Kickoff returns one for 100 yards and his second was for 103 yards.

With Cribbs returning the two kickoffs today he has set the all-time record for kickoff returns for touchdowns in the NFL. The Browns today started the game off with a Phil Dawson 47 yard field goal. After the Chiefs answered back with a field goal of there own, the Josh Cribbs show began as he had an electrifying return. In the second quarter the Browns had some adversity to overcome with a botched snap on a punt recovered for a touchdown, Jamal Charles 47-yard run for a touchdown, and a Chris Chamber touchdown reception that gave the Chiefs a 24-13 lead.

Cribbs helped the comeback with an 103 yard kickoff return his second of the day. That was huge for the Browns after falling behind Cribbs put them right back in the game. Brady Quinn only threw for 66 yards and had 2 int but has some big runs that helped the Browns to victory today.

Jerome Harrison broke the Browns rushing record with 286 yards and three touchdowns. His final TD of the day was the biggest with the game being tied at 34 Harrison broke free to give the Browns the final score of the day. The Browns were able to get out of K.C with a win and once again have shown improvement with the overall picture of the game. We got a win on the road the D didn’t play that well but were able to make a play unlike in Detroit to get the win. Brian Daboll needs to be praised about some of his play calling today because the Browns were able to trick the Chiefs on some critical third down plays today.

Just in case any Browns fans forgot when you win two games in a row that is called a winning streak, yes you read correctly the Browns are on a winning streak and have a very winnable game against the Raiders. I hope the media lays off Mangini a little bit now because no matter what anyone complaint is against Mangini, the Browns have shown improvement and are starting to win football games.

In years past Cleveland teams that haven’t had the best of records have quit by now and you don’t see that with this years team, they are playing for Mangini and that is refreshing to see as a Browns fan…
