Posted: 03 Feb 2010 04:49 PM PST

Referee Scott Green will lead a seven-man crew in officiating Sunday's Super Bowl between the Colts and the Saints. The NFL announced the game officials Wednesday.

Green is finishing his 19th season in the NFL. He was a back judge in the 2002 and 2004 Super Bowls. He has been a referee since 2004, and will be officiating his 13th playoff game.

The other officials are umpire Undrey Wash, head linesman John McGrath, line judge Jeff Seeman, field judge Rob Vernatchi, side judge Greg Meyer and back judge Greg Steed. The crew has a combined 66 years of NFL officiating experience.

Under the league's evaluation system, the highest-rated eligible officials at each position earn a Super Bowl assignment.

Texans and Coach Gary Kubiak Agree on an Extension

Posted: 03 Feb 2010 09:00 AM PST

Despite not getting the Texans to the playoffs under his watch, the Texans have extended the contract of coach Gary Kubiak. Reports say that the deal will keep him wiith the Texans through the 2012 season.

The new deal voids the last year of the five-year contract he signed when he joined the team in 2006 and is for the next three seasons according to the Houston Chronicle and Houston television station KRIV. He told the two outlets he wanted this so his contract would end the same year as his assistant coaches.

The Texans went 9-7 for their first winning record this season, but came just short of reaching the playoffs for the first time. Kubiak, who spent 11 years as Denver's offensive coordinator before coming to Houston, took over the team after it posted a franchise-worst 2-14 record.

Chargers RB Tomlinson Already Talking His Way Out of San Diego

Sounds like Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson is already planning on his future in another city. The running back likely won’t be with the Chargers much longer, as last season he put up just 730 yards and only had 3.3 yards per carry. He is taking the offensive again with the club, talking on radio in San Diego about the team and his future.

Tomlinson had this to say about the Chargers chemistry – “Things were always there that happened over time,” Tomlinson said. “I didn’t feel the unity and togetherness in the locker room at times this season …We’re at a point where guys come into the league and it’s not about the same values anymore. I just can’t deal with that kind of stuff.”

And likely, he won’t have to. The club would owe Tomlinson $5 million in 2010, meaning that for a player that has lost a step and didn’t have a 100-yard game in 2009.

Tomlinson will be somewhere in 2010, it just won’t be with the Chargers, as there’s no way this offseason he and the club will be able to find common ground to keep him around another season.

All-Time Best Post Game Quotes from former Saints and Colts Head Coach Jim Mora

Posted: 03 Feb 2010 07:44 AM PST

For the rest of the week, I'll be devoting my time compiling several 'Best of' lists leading up to the Super Bowl.  Lists will include best Super Bowls, best players, memorable plays and more.  I decided to kick things off with a former head coach who has ties to both New Orleans and Indianapolis.  That man is Jim Mora.  We all remember his famous speech about the playoffs and he had some pretty good post game rants in New Orleans.

For your enjoyment, here's some of the best post game quotes from Jim Mora:

" I'm sure people vomited in the stands when they watched our kicking game"Mora on the Saints' special teams in 1992

"I'll say this, those are some sick, sick, sick people. Mentally sick.  I thought it was horrible, disgusting. embarrassing, shameful.  It stunk.  People are sick when they do something like that.  Absolutely sick.  The guy's out there busting his a** like all our guys were and the guy gets his knee blown up and they're standing and cheering and clapping.  Those are some sick people.  Sick in the head.  They oughta get their a** thrown right out of the stadium" - Mora's reaction to Saints fans cheering when quarterback Wade Wilson went down with a knee injury in 1994.

Mora after the Saints lost to the Panthers 19-7 in 1996:

"We couldn't do diddly poo offensively.  We couldn't make a first down.  We couldn't run the ball.  We didn't try to run the ball.  We couldn't complete a pass.  We sucked."

"I'm totally embarrassed and totally ashamed.  Our coaching did a horrible job.  Our players did a horrible job.  We got our a** totally kicked in the second half.  That's what it boiled down to.  It sucked.  It stunk."

"We're a young team they say; balogna.  Rookie quarterback, the hell with that.  The bottom line is winning football games. We stink on defense.  We stink.  We stink." – Mora talking about the Colts' struggles during the 1998 season.

Quotes from Mora's famous PLAYOFFS?! post game interview in 2001 after the Colts lost to the 49ers 40-21:

"Well I'll start off by saying this: Do NOT blame that game on the defense, OK?  I don't care who you play, whether it's a high school team, a junior college team, a college team, much less an NFL team, when you turn the ball over five times, four interceptions, one for a touchdown, three others in field position to set up touchdowns, you ain't gonna beat anybody I just talked about."

"That was a disgraceful performance in my opinion.  We threw that game, we gave it away by doing that.  We gave them the friggin' game.  In my opinion that sucked."

"You can't turn the ball over five times.  Holy crap, I don't know who the hell we think we are when we do something like that.  Unbelievable.  Five turnovers."

"We've thrown four interceptions for touchdowns this year.  That might be an NFL record."

"That's pitiful.  I mean that's absolutely pitiful, to perform like that.  Pitiful.  Horrible.  Just horrible.  Horrible."

"Playoffs?  Don't talk about playoffs. You kiddin' me?  Playoffs?  I just hope we can win a game, another game"

Would the Giants and Jets Make a Deal – Osi Umenyiora for Kerry Rhodes?

Posted: 03 Feb 2010 07:43 AM PST

I can't remember where I saw this, so if you are the person who thought of it, I'm sorry I didn't give you credit.

But, the gist of the proposed deal was this: Osi Umenyiora for Kerry Rhodes?

It fits a need for both teams. The Jets need a pass rusher. The Giants need a safety. Both seem to be on the outs with the organization. Would it fit?

On the Giants side, yes. Rhodes would look great next to Kenny Phillips. Rhodes is a ballhawk who is pretty good in run support. On the Jets side, I'm not sure. Yes, Osi would give their pass rush a much needed jolt. But,is he a fit for the 3-4? He's not a 3-4 lineman, so he would have to play the rush linebacker spot. Can he do that?  Can he drop into coverage if needed? I don't know. I know he can rush the passer from that spot. It's the coverage that worries me, from a Jets standpoint. Will the Jets be willing to take on the coverage risk in exchange for the pass rush ability? Not sure.

Would I do this deal? Yeah. We need a safety, and unless we get Eric Berry in the draft ( which in unlikely), the Giants will need a proven safety, and Rhodes is proven. I'll miss Osi, but he gave us nothing last year, and this team has pass rushers. Would you do this deal?

Saints Make Their Arrival in Miami

Welcome to Miami!

Super Bowl week is now in full swing with the arrival of the Saints in Miami for this week's big game.

The Saints arrived in Miaimi around noon EST into Miami International Airport to a light drizzle. They boarded the team buses where they found a nice surprise waiting for them- Coach Payton, Drew Brees, and the rest of the Pro Bowl players already in Miami dressed as bellhops waiting for the team's arrival. The stunt, first done by Bill Walsh before the 1981 Super Bowl, was meant to relax the team and set the tone early.

After settling down, the team practiced at the Miami Dolphins' practice facility, which is rare for a team upon arrival for the Super Bowl.

The Saints return to Sun Life Stadium for Media Day. The event was moved indoors to the club area of the stadium due to inclement weather.

Click here for the NFL Network's Saints arrival coverage.
