Rumors Have the Bengals with Interest in WR’s Stallworth and Jones Posted: 11 Feb 2010 06:41 PM PST Predictably, there's a rumor circulating that WR Donte Stallworth has drawn interest from the Bengals. It's probably pure speculation and heresay, but here's the link. PFT is also reporting the team has interest in WR Matt Jones. Queue the tired jokes. Stallworth was recently reinstated by the commissioner after completing his legal obligations. New Browns poobah Mike Holmgren cut him shortly thereafter. Jones was cut by the Jaguars after Cocaine and Alcohol related incidents. Help at receiver will be a priority for the team this offseason, and the team is particularly interested in players with the speed to stretch the field. It's considered a weak draft at wide-out, but the team will certainly pick at least one, potentially in the first round. There should also be plenty of other veteran options available, including Terrell Owens, Torry Holt, Chris Chambers and other players in the 30+ set. A new CBA would create even more options. |
Help Out The Jason Taylor Foundation! Posted: 11 Feb 2010 06:08 PM PST It was brought to my attention by one of our loyal readers, Raleigh Miller, that this video was circulating around YouTube. Check this video out, as every view that it gets, a dollar gets donated to the Jason Taylor Foundation! This guy continues to put in work off the field in the charity field, and is the prime example of what an NFL player with extra money to spend should be. Notice that JT is not complaining about his current contract situation in Miami, nor is he bashing the team for placing him in a new and uncomfortable role this past season. Taylor is the definition of a pro, and I applaud him for all of the work that he has put in in his career, and all the work that he will put in in the the future. |
Rex Ryan A Breathe Of Fresh Air? Not Quite Posted: 11 Feb 2010 05:33 PM PST
While it may give the brash and obnoxious Jets fans (no offense!!), something to relate to, Ryan is just not the kind of coach that the NFL needs to represent the league. By saying that a certain coach is a "breathe of fresh air", you are saying that this certain coach is something that the NFL, and its fans, should be proud of and may become the face of the league, as a coach. Would any of you fans want the NFL to be hand in hand with Rex Ryan? And keep in mind that this is the same Rex Ryan who flipped fans off, got into media wars with Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder, and said his team would be in the Super Bowl, during OTA's! Ryan may be a uhh, little different than the rest of the coaches around the NFL, but that does not mean that he is a "breathe of fresh air". A "breathe of fresh air", in my mind is Sean Payton. Rewatching the Super Bowl film on NFL Network, I noticed some of the many emotions that were released during the Big Game by the New Orleans Saints coach, and sat in pure joy and amazement at the love that this guy has for the game, and for his job. Payton not only shows his class on and off the field, but he leads by example, which is something that I admire. But one of the traits that Payton has about him is his ability to show his emotion in the heat of battle, and not let it influence his decisions, something that gets to Dolphins coach Tony Sparano. Payton is an all-around offensive genius, and like Ryan, has his specialty when it comes to the game of football. Payton has built his team from scratch, and has brought back the city of New Orleans, and has helped rebuilt that city. That is something that Ryan will never be able to do. Payton, and Drew Brees, have helped New Orleans in ways that no coach will ever be able to help a city, and for that reason, you just have to stop and cheer for this guy. He shows his emotion, only in a classy, and non-vulgar or inappropriate way, like Ryan. He is the mastermind behind the comeback against the Indianapolis Colts. Unlike Rex, Payton is just a class act, while showing his emotion in the heat of battle. Payton is pretty much the classier version of Rex in a nutshell. There is really nothing bad that you can say about Payton. He is a guy that is truly a "breathe of fresh air", and can give the Saints fans something to cheer for even during the off-season. So sorry Rex, your just not the breathe of fresh air that I need right now, I prefer the air down in New Orleans! |
Rams Officially Sold to Shahid Khan Posted: 11 Feb 2010 03:34 PM PST The Rams ownership group of Rosenbloom and Rodriquez have entered into an agreement to sell the Rams to Illinois businessman Shahid Khan. The move will still be pending for over 6 weeks as the NFL owners would have to approve the sale to Khan. Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch got the scoop late last night and the full article is posted on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website. Khan lives in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois which is just over 3 hours from St. Louis. And Bernie drops the best news for St. Louis Rams fans in the article.
That is the best possible result for St. Louis, even if Dave Checketts purchased the team. A St. Louis Rams fan buys the Rams is the best case scenario and Khan is committed to keeping the Rams in St. Louis. It is unclear if Stan Kroenke will want to sell his 40% stake in the Rams, but by all accounts Khan would have the money to purchase that portion if he needed to. Additionally, Khan will be the first minority owner in the NFL if the sale goes through. |
Jaguars Cut Veteran WR Holt, OT Thomas and DT Meier Posted: 11 Feb 2010 03:23 PM PST
Head coach Jack Del Rio had already told the three aging veterans they would not be part of the team's rebuilding process. Holt, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection with St. Louis, caught 51 passes for 722 yards with the Jaguars last season. He has 920 career receptions for 13,382 yards and 74 touchdowns. Thomas, a three-time Pro Bowler with Philadelphia, started three games for the Jaguars last season. Meier, a 10-year veteran who spent last season on injured reserve, has 307 career tackles and ranks ninth in team history with 21 1/2 sacks. |

Dolphins With their Eyes on Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin Posted: 11 Feb 2010 08:03 AM PST While trades cannot be made until after the new football year starts, on March 5th, according to ESPN Insider, the Dolphins are preparing to offer a 3rd rounder to the Arizona Cardinals for receiver Anquan Boldin. The Cardinals are also reportedly interested in Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter. Porter is on his way out, but there is a timeline that involves Porter, that may complicate things a little bit. On March 4th, Porter is due his roster bonus, worth $1 million. But trades cannot be made until March 5th. So what is there to do with Porter in that time? Do the Dolphins set up this trade anyway, and work out a deal that pits the Cardinals paying Porter's bonus? We know that the Dolphins are interested in upgrading their receiving corps. Bill Parcells even said it himself. Only giving up a 3rd round pick for Boldin would be a great bargin, and would set up a huge draft day for the Dolphins. There would no longer be any need to go after a wide receiver in the first three rounds. There would be no need to target Dez Bryant in the first round instead of going after a linebacker. Eliminating the need for a true #1 receiver would allow the Dolphins to go after some of their other needs such as a linebacker, or a nose tackle. Trading for Boldin would automatically make the Dolphins a better team, and would rid them of problem child Joey Porter. If the Dolphins are already looking into the trade possibilities, then one would think that they plan on getting this trade done. According to the Sun-Sentinels Barry Jackson, two sources have talked to the Dolphins, and they have no intentions of making a move for Brandon Marshall, the Denver Broncos receiver. This would make Boldin the only receiver who's name is not Dez Bryant that the Dolphins could acquire this off-season. Let's wait and see what happens on this, the Dolphins may just surprise us all, and make this deal happen. |
