Dolphins Weekly Rumor Mill

Posted: 14 Feb 2010 08:14 PM PST

The Dolphins have had a busy week, from releasing Joey Porter, to reinstating him due to cap issues. The week was a shaky one, and from some of the quotes that have been coming out of a certain cornerbacks mouth, the month may get shakier.

Will Allen is coming off a season ending ACL injury that inserted rookie cornerback Vontae Davis into the starting lineup. But despite this barrier that he has to overcome, seeing as how benching Davis would hinder his development, Allen still thinks that he will be the starter come Opening Day in the NFL.

“I’m starting,” Allen declared last week. “You can put that wherever you want. I’ve started every year. I don’t expect that to change now.”

This should be interesting to say the least. If Allen wants to start, there could be chance that he does not get his wish granted. Could that mean trouble in paradise yet again for the Trifecta? I think Will Allen is much more of a professional than Joey Porter is, so I think that scenario is highly unlikely, but how well would Allen react to being the third corner on the team?

In other news, former Dolphins great Zach Thomas has said that he is set to retire and hopes that the Dolphins sign him to a contract so that he can retire as a member of the team where he was known as one of the best linebackers in the game.

Sign him, and let one of the Dolphins greats retire as a member of his former team.

The Dolphins are reportedly interested in draft prospect Mardy Gilyard, a wide receiver from Cincinnati.

Gilyard admitted that the Dolphins made contact with him during the week of the Senior Bowl, and showed interest in him.

While the Dolphins may not draft Gilyard in the draft, be prepared to hear all kinds of talk on which receivers the Dolphins are talking to, and showing interest in. At this point they are simply covering all of their bases, and Gilyard is one of the top receiving prospects in the draft this year.

I would expect them to do the same with Brandon LaFell, Dez Bryant, and Golden Tate.

The Dolphins have a long ways to go before the draft, and even free agency start, and will be forced to make some decisions along the way that may affect the team in a big way. Will Allen may be one of them. Let’s just hope this does not into the 2nd edition of the Joey Porter saga.
