Eagles ink WR Jason Avant to a 5-year deal Posted: 08 Mar 2010 05:41 PM PST Although the Eagles didn't make a splash in free agency over the weekend, it seems their main goal right now is bringing back the players they want that are already in their system. After signing Leonard Weaver to a new deal on Friday, the Eagles have now signed Jason Avant to a 5-year contract. Avant typically doesn't find himself in the spotlight because of the explosive plays of DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin; however, anyone that follows this team knows it was important for the Eagles to bring him back. Avant has clutch hands and always seems to get open on third downs and in the middle of the field. I'm glad to see that the two sides were able to reach a deal and that Jason Avant will stay with this team for a long time. |
Posted: 08 Mar 2010 05:39 PM PST It is being reported that the Cleveland Browns have acquired quarterback Seneca Wallace from the Seattle Seahawks. This should really be no surprise to any football fan. Wallace was drafted by current Browns G.M. Mike Holmgren when he was the head coach for the Seahawks. This moves means either Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson are on their way out of Cleveland. Which ever one stays will more than likely be the starter with Wallace being their backup. The pick is said to be an undisclosed pick in the 2011 draft. The Browns currently have 11 picks in the upcoming draft. |
Steelers bring back WR Antwaan Randle El Posted: 08 Mar 2010 05:06 PM PST
The original Steeler comes back a few days after he was released from the Washington Redskins. He played with the Steelers for four seasons before he then inked with the Washington Redskins, where he just wrapped up his 4th season before he was let go.
He right away gives the Steelers a great return guy, and can also give the team another wide out if needed. This means Limas Sweed’s 2010 roster spot could be in severe risk. |
Lions taking a look at now free agent CB Lito Sheppard Posted: 08 Mar 2010 02:56 PM PST The Lions are reportedly pursuing Lito Sheppard with some competition from the Bears per ProFootballTalk.com. Sheppard was drafted by the Eagles and had a contractual based falling out with ownership. He was traded to the Jets in the 2009 offseason for a fifth round pick in 2009 and a conditional 2010 pick. The 2010 pick may have been related to him being on the Jets roster since his play didn't warrant his release. After a couple of down seasons and some early season injury issues Sheppard put together a strong performance in the second half of the season. More impressive was the fact that he was being targeted more frequently as teams shied away from teammate Darrelle Revis. Sheppard has struggled with injuries and is not a long term solution, but the Lions need to add more bodies to the cornerback position to avoid handicapping themselves in the draft. |
Colts release starting right guard Ryan Lilja Posted: 08 Mar 2010 02:54 PM PST Right guard Ryan Lilja has been shown the door by the Colts, as PFT announces he has been released by the team today. He was on the O-line that team president Bill Polian said didn’t play very well in the teams recent Super Bowl setback to the Saints:

Rams to sign former Giants DT Fred Robbins Posted: 08 Mar 2010 08:53 AM PST The Rams added former Giant DT Fred Robbins to their rotation of defensive tackles over the weekend. Our own Mike predicted the Rams would sign Robbins in his defensive line preview here. Is Robbins the answer to the Rams issues along the defensive line? Certainly not. Is he going to make the Rams wary of drafting a defensive tackle high in the draft? Probably not. However, he is going to add to the Rams current defensive tackle rotation of Robbins, Adam Carriker, Clifton Ryan and Darell Scott. Robbins, 33, will add the much needed veteran presence to the middle of the defensive line that Hollis Thomas could not bring last season. |
Jaguars ink former Packers DE Kampman Posted: 08 Mar 2010 07:45 AM PST
Kampman he is coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and played in just nine games in 2009. He had 3.5 sacks. Overall he has has 54 sacks, and emerged as one of the NFL's elite pass rushers in recent years, recording a total of 37 sacks from 2006-08, but struggled in 2009. Jacksonville, which also elevated its special teams with the signing of Kassim Osgood this weekend, targeted Kampman before free agency began Friday. |
