Former Bills HOF QB Kelly thinks Tim Tebow would be a good fit for Buffalo

Posted: 03 Apr 2010 07:58 PM PDT

How about Tim Tebow wearing a Buffalo Bills uniform in 2010? Vic Carucci of NFL.com caught up with former Bills HOF QB Jim Kelly, and he says that Tebow would be a good fit with the Bills.

"Just because I'm a former quarterback, people think I can just tell from being around a guy (if he has what it takes to be a successful NFL quarterback)," Kelly said. "But I need to watch him go through a drill and make all the throws. I need to really study him before I could say whether he should be a first-round pick. Now, a second-rounder, I'd be OK with that, but I don't have enough information on (Tebow) to say they should use the No. 9 pick on him.

"Maybe they could also trade down, if someone wants that No. 9 pick, and get him with a lower pick in the first round."

It’s been wild to see people either love or hate Tebow, but the bottom line is some team is going to take him in the NFL draft, and from there it will be interesting to see where one of the most touted QB’s in college history fits in. You never now – it could be in Buffalo.

San Francisco the best place for QB Donovan McNabb

Posted: 03 Apr 2010 04:22 PM PDT

Tweeted this earlier, but I'm going to make the case of Donovan McNabb to be traded to the 49ers (yes, yes, I know this isn't exactly Giants related, but it is NFC East related).

The 49ers have two first round picks–13 and 17. With the Eagles wanting a top pick, the 49ers can afford to get rid of one. The 49ers already have significant offensive threats. Frank Gore at running back. Michael Crabtree at wide receiver. Vernon Davis at tight end. With a top QB like McNabb, their offense will be at the top of the league.

The Niners have always had quarterback trouble since Jeff Garcia left. McNabb fills that need. Combine that with a defense led by Patrick Willis and you have a playoff team. You can still use that other first round pick to fill a need at safety or on the offensive line.

I still don't get the reasoning for trading McNabb, but if he is to go, the Niners are the best place for him.

Colts interested in former Bears DE Alex Brown?

Posted: 03 Apr 2010 04:21 PM PDT

It's been reported that the Colts could be interested in recently released Bears' defensive end Alex Brown. Brown was the Bears' starting defensive end. The Colts could take interest because of the release of Raheem Brock. The Colts could use a third defensive end.

They might even try him out a bit at defensive tackle. We'll see. Brown might be a good fit after all, who knows?

Bengals re-sign guard Bobbie Williams

Posted: 03 Apr 2010 04:16 PM PDT

Per ESPN via Adam Schefter's Twitter account, the Cincinnati Bengals have come to terms with free agent guard Bobbie Williams.

With Williams in the fold for the 2010 season, the Bengals now have 21 of 22 starters from a year ago under contract for next season. Laveranues Coles, who was released by the team earlier in the offseason is the only starter not returning for 2010.

Rumors that the Bengals wouldn't be able to afford (or willing to spend enough on) Williams can be put to rest with this move.  If the Bengals' draft was not already wide open, this signing gives Cincinnati even more flexibility come April 21.

Panthers GM Hurney sitting with a contract extension on the table

Posted: 03 Apr 2010 04:08 PM PDT

It’s a make or break year for Panthers head coach John Fox. If the team starts slow, or doesn’t at least make the postseason, there’s isn’t many that think he’ll be around as the coach in 2011. With that being said, there’s an interesting tidbit on GM Marty Hurney, as ESPN says there is a contract extension for him that still stands:

Unlike Panthers head coach John Fox, whose contract expires after the upcoming season, GM Marty Hurney has an offer for a new deal on the table. League sources have said Hurney was offered an extension sometime during last season and the offer still stands. Basically, the thinking was Hurney didn’t immediately accept the offer because he was waiting to see what happens to Fox, the coach he hired and has a long history with, but nothing new happened on the Fox situation.

One would think that if Fox is shown the door, Hurney would be right behind, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The Panthers haven’t been that stockpiled with talent to make Hurney that valuable, so one has to wonder why he would get to stay if the team has another bad season?
