Steelers Tomlin says his opening day QB will be in place by July Posted: 13 May 2010 09:54 PM PDT
With that, Mike Tomlin isn’t gonna play around with preseason games and all the rest to decide who is going to start against the Falcons. The teams official site reports he’ll make that decision by July.
It will be interesting to see what happens if he makes that decision, and that QB gets outshined in preseason. Can he go back on it? Would he? For now, I think Dixon is the answer, but from all indications, Leftwich it sounds like is in the drivers seat to be the opening day starter. |
Report says Jets have had Ellis on the trading block for months Posted: 13 May 2010 08:22 PM PDT
Ellis has even spoken out about the chance of being let go by the club. “There’s always a possibility,” Ellis said. “There’s no secret that they want to get younger guys in, but I feel like I still have a lot of years to play and I’m just trying to do the right things I need to do. I’ll just go out and play and have a good season and let it work itself out, whether it’s here or somewhere else.” |
Texans LB Cushing says he didn’t know how HCG got in his system Posted: 13 May 2010 08:07 PM PDT
Cushing confirmed he tested positive for HCG, a fertility drug that is on the league's banned substance list. "The question of how it got into my body is still unclear," he said. "It's something that I'm very personally concerned about, just the fact that how it's there and what's going to determine it from happening again, and that's something we're going to have to medically investigate." Cushing said that he was told HCG can get in your body from injecting it or because of tumors. He said this information led him to believe he had tumors. He did not say what kind of tumors. "I personally know I'm not injecting myself with anything," he said. "I played the whole season thinking this could not only be my last season, but my last year." Cushing added he is concerned about his health and plans to undergo tests to see "how this got into my body" and to try to make sure it doesn't happen again. In a statement Saturday, Cushing said the test indicated "the presence of a non-steroidal banned substance." He said he took the test in September and was notified of the results in October. |
Posted: 13 May 2010 02:17 PM PDT Some thoughts, and tidbits of information after this past weekend's Mini-camp.
Oher and his adoptive family, the Tuohys, will be the celebrity volunteers for the build on the season finale of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The episode will air on May 16 at 8 p.m. Oher and his parents are volunteering to rebuild the home of a father and coach who is dealing with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Oher is someone who knows firsthand what it's like to be in need. It's great to see him being able to give back and help others.
The North Avenue corridor, at the corner of Broadway, is home to the DIAKON Center, where Lewis and his charitable foundation host an annual Thanksgiving distribution for nearly 1,000 Baltimore families in need. I'm sure that in national circles this will be the root of several jokes. But even though Lewis has had his share of national attention with his double murder case he has done many things for the city of Baltimore. I think that the renaming of the street will only be the first of several commendations that he'll receive from the city in the future. Congratulations Ray.
Matt Birk's HIKE Foundation, which provides educational programs and resources to at-risk children in Maryland held a charity dinner last Monday at Morton's Steakhouse. Among six of the Ravens were Joe Flacco, Michael Oher and Ben Grubbs. When the Ravens signed Birk they were getting not only a quality Pro Bowl player but a quality individual as well. The event was sold out.

Saints Owner Benson comments on the Vicodin case Posted: 13 May 2010 02:15 PM PDT Even Saints owner Tom Benson has something to say on the pending Vicodin scandal which has plauged the Saints the last couple of weeks. "I can't tell you exactly how I feel about that, but it's a typical type of somebody that isn't happy, and they file suit on you," Benson said before serving as keynote speaker at a Salvation Army banquet in San Antonio. "I better not say anything more or I'll get myself in trouble." But he had more to say about the man filing the lawsuit against the team. "I will say it's sort of the fact (Geoffrey Santini) resigned and then we won the Super Bowl," Benson said. "I'd be unhappy too if I had resigned, and (team president) Rita (Benson LeBlanc) had won the Super Bowl." Santini, a 31-year FBI veteran, claims that Saints general manager Mickey Loomis asked him to find out who was stealing Vicodin from a medicine cabinet in the team's training room but then covered up the results of Santini's investigation. |
TE Reggie Kelly back with the Bengals Posted: 13 May 2010 02:14 PM PDT Filling the second of 3 final off-season priorities I noted prior to the draft, the Bengals have signed a veteran tight end. It turns out they got the one they really wanted all along in their own Reggie Kelly. Kelly texted Hobson at Bengals.com with the news, stating, "I'm blessed." This allows the Bengals to go into the season with an experienced tight end to mentor youngsters Jermaine Gresham and Chase Coffman. Kelly is also considered an elite blocker at the Tight End position, allowing the team to continue to pursue a run-first philosophy. Barring injuries, look for the three TE's to make the roster to be Kelly, Gresham, and Coffman. Last year's starters, Dan "fumbles" Coats, and J.P. Foschi, will not be back. The team will likely carry developmental project Darius Hill and perhaps a rookie on the practice squad in 2010. Look for a continued push towards more 2 TE sets in 2010 with a more stable and talented group this year. |
