It’s on US – Get a FREE Gillette Fusion ProGlide! Posted: 03 Jun 2010 10:30 PM PDT When you thinking shaving, you think Gillette, not those other brands that do a sub-par job at giving us a close shave while protecting our skin. Something that's always been a hurdle for product makers in the past has been the "tug and pull" dilemma. The ProGlide, part of Gillette's ProSeries, packs significant enhancements, that not only address the skin, but the hair as well. So what separates this new razor from the Gillette Fusion or other ones from years past? First, and perhaps most importantly, the blades have been re-engineered to be thinner, with finer edges and have been given an advanced low-resistance coating, allow the razor to cut effortlessly through hair with less tug and pull compared to other leading razors on the market. Other enhancements include a larger Lubrastrip for an even smoother layer of protection even when on repeat strokes, as well as the addition of a Microcomb, which helps to guide hair directly to the blade. The Fusion ProGlide goes on sale in a manual and Power option next month, but Gillette's actually been kind enough to give some of you guys out there the opportunity to grab one for free. A total of 500 razors are up for grabs, which you can grab below. It's pretty simple, hit the widget, follow the instructions and get yours for free. No gimmicks!
Jets CB Revis Not a Happy Camper Posted: 03 Jun 2010 09:36 PM PDT All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis did not show up at Thursday's OTA because he is unhappy with the progress in his contract extension negotiations.
Also, to make matters worse Revis is claiming that the Jets leaked the story that he is demanding $20 million a year to make him look like the bad guy. This situation looks like it is getting ugly fast. Although, the Jets can still retain Revis for at least three more years if the choose; they hold all the leverage. Though that would probably lead to more bad blood and no one wants that. Hopefully, the two sides can come to a reasonable agreement sooner rather than later, and Revis can get back on the field and continue to shut down opposing receivers for the green and white.
The Watch on OJ Atogwe Continues Posted: 03 Jun 2010 09:23 PM PDT Dallas, San Francisco and Washington have also denied interest in Atogwe according to ESPN's NFC West Blogger Mike Sando. He pegs Detroit as the most likely non-STL landing place. The Miami Dolphins, one of the teams that showed interest in Atogwe before he was a free agent, today denied interest in his services according to Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald.
So, it looks like Miami will not be the team that wants to give Atogwe a huge deal. That leaves Dallas and possibly Minnesota. Most teams have their starting safeties set by June 1st and are unwilling to pay a premium for a free agent. However, we will see if they are willing to ante up for Atogwe.
An Update from the Cardinals Voluntary Workouts Posted: 03 Jun 2010 09:19 PM PDT Apparently Onrea Jones, not Ed Gant as a previously reported, has established himself as the front runner for the fourth wide receiver position. Whisenhunt explained that "O.J. has done a great job of working hard, made a lot of plays in the OTAs and did a good job for us last year on the practice squad." The finish line, however, is still a long way away for O.J. as it's only OTAs. Pro Bowl cornerback Dominique-Rodgers Cromartie tested his strained toe, but quickly decided to sit out. There's no word on exactly how serious the injury is or whether it's affecting his recovery from knee surgery. In addition, CB Trumaine McBride was working with CB Michael Adams on the first string, with Greg Toler working with the second team defense. Adams and McBride will obviously not be the starting CBs, but they would be a dreadful secondary to be stuck with during the season if something happens to either or both Toler and DRC. On the offensive line, Brandon Keith (who had been working out as the starting right tackle) flipped over to left tackle, giving Jeremy Bridges a chance to try out right tackle. Levi Brown, therefore, was left out of the mix for the time being. In addition, Rex Hadnot tweaked his knee during workouts and had to leave on a cart. It's believed, however, that the injury is not serious. Rookie TE Jim Dray also tweaked his knee during a workout. Like Hadnot, Dray's injury doesn't appear to be serious. It's worth noting, however, that Dray had major reconstructive knee surgery during his college career.
Report says Colts All-Pro WR Wayne Won’t be at Teams OTA Posted: 03 Jun 2010 09:14 PM PDT
Rumors initially spread that Wayne was staying away from minicamp to focus on a $95,000 court case he’s been dealing with of late, but he claims that’s not the case at all. Earlier this week, a former female companion of Wayne’s was accused of piling up $95,000 worth of charges on Wayne’s credit cards. She contends she had Wayne’s permission to do so, while he strongly denies it. Wayne is expected to fully compete in training camp before the season.
Saints RB Reggie Bush’s Mom Not a Big Fan of Kim Kardashian Posted: 03 Jun 2010 09:10 PM PDT Like many celebrities, Reggie Bush spent his weekend in Las Vegas flirting and looking like he wasn't even thinking about Kim K. Sources say Reggie is enjoying being single and has no plans of getting back with Kim. Radaronline.com reports that a major reason why Reggie never plans to marry the E! Princess is because of his mother! "His mother does not want her son dating someone who has a sex tape out there." said Radar source and added "He is such a mamma's boy; he will never marry her because she would disown him." Reggie who is reportedly very close with his mother values his mothers opinion and would never go against her wishes. "He respects his mother's opinion and would take that into account before even his own feelings, so he will never marry Kim." Another problem in their relationship was Kim's obsession with being in the spot light, and Reggie polar opposite of her type of lifestyle. Reggie's break up with Kim is probably the last thing on his mind and is most concerned about losing the Heisman Trophy because of a NCAA probe of USC's football program. "His last concern is Kim Kardashian right now – he has a lot on his plate because they might be taking away his USC (Heisman Trophy) award from 2002," the Radar source said.
Steelers Gab Editor Matt Loede’s Top 10 Favorite Steelers of All-Time Posted: 03 Jun 2010 12:46 PM PDT More than one person has asked me over the years who my favorite Steelers all-time are. With doing plenty of research for my upcoming book – “100 Things Steelers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die” (which can be ordered HERE), I have gotten more and more of a fondness for players that maybe in the past I didn’t know all that much about. With that said, I figured now is as good a time as ever to pop out my personal list of my Top 10 Favorite Steelers of All-Time. Some may shock you, some may upset you, but whatever the case, here goes nothing. 9. Jack Lambert – He’s number 13 in my book, his chapter titled – "Count Dracula in Cleats.” You can’t talk about the greatness of past Steeler defenses and not talk about Lambert, who was just so colorful in all the things he did. I think my favorite all-time memory of Lambert was his throw down of Cowboys safety Cliff Harris in Super Bowl X after he mocked Steelers kicker Roy Gerela after a missed field goal. He turned that game around, and the Steelers won 21-17. "If I was ever in a bar-room brawl and needed one man to go back-to-back with me, I'd want Jack Lambert to be the man," Joe Greene said of Lambert. "This is one rough, tough guy…someone who'll never give up." Yet another reason I loved what he did for the Steelers for many years, and why he’s 9 on my all-time favorite player list. 8. Joey Porter – His mouth and motor never stopped, and for that he’s simply one of my favorites of the modern Steelers era. Porter ran his mouth again and again, but you know what – more time than not he backed it up. Two games with Porter come to mind, the 05 playoff win in Indy, and then the week after in Denver. Porter was the best defensive player on the field in both those games, making big plays against Peyton Manning and then the next week stripping Jake Plummer to give the Steelers the ball for what was their first TD of the game. It was tough to see Porter leave after the Super Bowl letdown season of 2006, but the team knew they were left in good hands with James Harrison as well as Woodley. I was in favor of the team taking a look at him when he was let go this past offseason, but in the end wasn’t shocked they didn’t. Despite that, he’s still an all-time favorite. 7. Joe Greene – How could you not love the “Steel Curtain” and what this North Texas State product brought to the team. No doubt, if Greene isn’t drafted, the Steelers do not win four Super Bowls. It’s that simple. He was double and triple teamed at almost all times, and once he was able to use his emotion to knock the snot out of ball carriers and QB’s, Greene was one of the best of all-time at his position. Greene hated losing, and he let his teammates know about poor play in no uncertain terms. For that, I loved what he brought to the team, and his flat out great play as a Hall of Famer makes him #7 on my favorite all-time list.
I was there for Bettis’ last 100+ yard game against the Bears back in 2005, and I will never forget with the snow falling watching him bowl over overrated Bears LB Brian Urlacher for a touchdown that led to a Steelers win. Bettis was a huge reason the team won Super Bowl XL, as they fed off that emotion for that late season and postseason run.
If he gets his personal affairs in order, and stays out of trouble, he could challenge Terry Bradshaw for most of his QB records. If he wins 1-2 more rings for this club, I am pretty sure that black and gold fans will find it in themselves to forgive him for the mistakes he has made. 4. Hines Ward – While I have a soft spot for the 70’s tandem of Lynn Swann and John Stallworth, you can’t deny what Hines Ward has done in his time as a Steeler. All he’s done is set record after record, and drive other teams nuts with his smile and ability to make huge plays. Ward is a Hall of Famer, and it’s great to know that unless something totally out of wack happens, he’ll play his whole career as a Steeler. Ward is another guy that bleeds back and gold, and he gives it back in the community as well as on the field, which is great to see. Right now with the issues with their QB, Ward to me is their team leader, and a guy that puts other players on his shoulder. For that, he’s #4 on my list.
Lloyd was simply the most intense Steeler I ever had the chance to interview and watch. I know the men of the ‘Steel Curtain’ before him would have words about that, but Lloyd was around at a time when I really got more and more into the team, and therefore he’s number three on my list. 2. Merril Hoge – Yeah, you probably don’t remember him all that much for what he did, but for a short period of time near the end of the Chuck Noll era Hoge was the teams best rusher. He was a 10th round pick in 1987, and while he wasn’t the most gifted back on the team most years, he always wore his heart on his sleeve, which is why he was such a fan favorite. In 1989 when the team went 9-7 and scrapped their way into the playoffs, he rushed for 621 yards and 8 TD’s and caught 34 passes as well. Then in the playoffs he had two big games against the Oilers and then almost helped the team upset the eventual AFC Champion Broncos. In both games he went over 100 yards on the ground. In 1990 he ran for a team high 772 yards, and then over 600 again in 1991. Once Bill Cowher came in, Hoge became a blocking back, and played in the Steel City for two more seasons before leaving to go to the Bears. It was there he suffered a series of concussions that ended his career. He went on to work for ESPN, get and recover from cancer, and remains in the broadcast industry. A great guy on and off the field, Hoge always wore his heart on his sleeve.
O'Donnell's career numbers with the Steelers saw him have some very productive seasons. When he was given the green light to throw the ball a lot, he put up impressive numbers, not huge numbers, but numbers that put the Steelers in the best position to win. He almost won the 1994 AFC Title Game on his own when the defense and run game let him down, and then in 95 played big in the final minutes of the AFC Championship Game vs the Colts to get the team to the Super Bowl. O'Donnell's career saw him hold the NFL record for lowest career interception percentage with 2.11 picks every 100 pass attempts. It was almost cruel that two interceptions defined his career in the Steel City. With the Steelers as a starter he won 39 of 61 starts, and threw for 12,867 yards with 68 touchdowns and 38 interceptions. He never got the credit he deserved as a quarterback and could manage the game as well as make some tough throws when needed. One can only wonder what would have happened if those two throws in Super Bowl XXX would have been completed – to Steeler receivers instead of Larry Brown. He was a good QB at a time when the team went through a bunch of bad to average QB’s for a number of years. He was a quiet team leader that led more by example, and while I was as peeved as anyone for him bailing on the team after the Super Bowl loss, he remains my all-time favorite Steeler.
Who Is The Colts Next Best WR After Reggie Wayne? Posted: 03 Jun 2010 09:18 AM PDT The Indianapolis Colts have been ruling for nearly a decade on the passing attack. We've seen Peyton Manning throwing to Marvin Harrison all the time, including a season where both connected for 143 receptions, as it became the best quarterback-to-wide receiver tandem in the National Football League. When Marvin left, it made a hole in the Colts' receiver spot. Colts' fans knew Reggie Wayne will live up to expectations in the 2009-10 NFL season, and he did. And Anthony Gonzalez was there to help. Meanwhile, Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie will look to come in at times when there are three or four receivers up by the line of scrimmage. But those plans went spiraling downward when Gonzalez was out for a few weeks. Those few weeks would later turn into number eleven being out for the whole year. As the season went by, we saw how good Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie really were. We saw one of the bests, if not the best, season of Peyton Manning's career as he led the Colts to a 14-0 run. The Colts would later strive in the playoffs and finish the year off as the second best team in the league after…well you know exactly what happened in February. Now the Colts are looking for something better this season: being the number one team. Isn't that what every NFL team wants to be? Do the Colts want it? I guess we will have to see, won't we? But the Colts built themselves up well in the off-season. Though, yes, they had some releases of players. Yes, some of them were questioning, but the Colts know what to do. Hey, they released Marvin Harrison and they turned out great. But the big question for the off-season and as training camp and the pre-season comes up: what should the Indianapolis Colts do with their wide receiver corps? Anthony Gonzalez is returning and we saw how great Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie are and how important they are to the white and blue. We know that Reggie Wayne will be the number one receiver and it brings questions of what they will do for the second and third spot. I have a feeling it will be Pierre Garcon and Anthony Gonzalez fighting for the second position, so they can be on the opposite side of Reggie Wayne most of the time when the 60-minute game starts. Whoever wins will probably battle Austin Collie at the slot receiver spot, or just win it just like that. But it is going to be a real big battle here. I think Garcon is the second best receiver. He didn't have a chance to prove how good he was to the Colts in the 2008-09 season. But last year, he showed what he really was. And that injury that hit Gonzalez really is going to effect him. Garcon will win the second spot and Anthony Gonzalez and Austin Collie will fight for the third spot. I always had this idea of the Colts trading Gonzalez. They could do that. But I think Indianapolis will pass on that. So I guess the fans will have to decide. Who should win third spot: Collie or Gonzo? This season is going to be fun!
Is Terrell Owens a First Ballot Hall of Famer? Posted: 03 Jun 2010 08:39 AM PDT Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wrote an interesting article on www.sportingnews.com explaining why two of the best receivers in the last fifteen years or so might not make the Hall of Fame in their first try. They go by Randy Moss and Terrell Owens. I'll focus on one of them, since he played for the 49ers. Subject: Terrell Owens, also known as, T.O. Even though many 49ers fans have now long forgotten about T.O. and could not care any less about him, I myself still love T.O. Again, I love T.O. – the football player, but I neither love nor hate Terrell Owens, the person. And, for the record, I find nothing wrong with Terrell Owens as a person. T.O. is one of the main reasons why I love the 49ers today. Moving on, Florio's article stems from a debate he has had recently with his peers regarding whether players with bad off-field conduct should be kept from the Hall of Fame. Well, here is my take on the matter. Not once has T.O. been accused of any kind of wrong doing off the field. Misdemeanors, DUIs, speeding, you name it, he has a spotless record. Florio also acknowledges that in his article. However, T.O.'s reputation is not spotless. Ask any quarterback, or any other player, for that matter, who has played with T.O. and you will quickly find out that he is not the greatest teammate. He has found a way to make countless players, fans, and members of the media dislike him. Now, should that be reason enough for the guy to miss making the Hall of Fame on his first try? No. Let's take a quick look at T.O.'s career receiving numbers to date:
The numbers show that the guy can flat-out play. By the time he retires (assuming he has two more formidable seasons) he should finish in the top three of all receiving categories. That alone should get him in on his first try. Ultimately, do I believe he will get in on his first try? I don't know. It depends on his year of eligibility, and to some extent, how the 44 Hall of Fame voters feel about him. One thing I know for sure is that if he signs with a team and goes silently about his work for about two years, and he wins a Super Bowl, all bets are off and he won't have to wait for long before his call to the Hall. |
