Patriots place WR Wes Welker on active/PUP list Posted: 27 Jul 2010 04:29 PM PDT ESPN's Mike Reiss is reporting that the New England Patriots have placed wide receiver Wes Welker on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Welker, whose recovery from February surgery to repair a torn left ACL and MCL has been on schedule, is eligible to come off the list at any time. This is not a negative setback, Welker's recovery remains on schedule, and all signs point to Welker being ready to start the regular season on the active roster. This appears to be just a procedural move to allow the Patriots some roster flexibility by freeing up a roster spot, allowing them to keep another body around for the start of training camp. In addition to Welker, the Patriots placed third-year outside linebacker Shawn Crable, who has been plagued by injuries over his first two seasons, both of which he ended up on injured reserve, and rookie defensive lineman Kade Weston, who is dealing with a knee injury from college, on the active/physically unable to perform list. By placing the players on the active/PUP list, the Patriots leave open the possibility that Welker, Crable and Weston could ultimately land on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. The reserve/PUP list is different than the active/PUP list in that a player would be forced to miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season. On a positive note, all three players are eligible to come off the active/PUP list at any time during training camp, which begins on Thursday July 29th. |
Owens Joins the Bengals with a One-Year Deal worth $2 Million Posted: 27 Jul 2010 04:20 PM PDT Profootballtalk.com is reporting that mercurial wide receiver Terrell Owens has agreed to terms with the Bengals on a one-year, 2 million dollar deal. Apparently PFT's sources are also saying he can earn another 2 million in incentives, giving him a potential value of 4 million. The incentives are based on receptions, yards, and touchdowns. This news will no doubt make a highly-competitive WR derby even more so for youngsters like Jerome Simpson and Quan Cosby, as well as veteran Matt Jones. At this point the team can go three wide receivers with Chad Ochocinco, Antonio Bryant, and Terrell Owens, with Cedric Benson in the backfield and Jermaine Gresham at tight end. Time to kiss the baby. Somewhere Carson Palmer is smiling. And Chad Ochocinco is swooning. |
Former Raiders Great Jack Tatum Dies at 61 Posted: 27 Jul 2010 12:12 PM PDT
After starring at Ohio State, Tatum enjoyed a 10-year career, spending nine of them with the Raiders (1971-79). During his time with that team, he made three Pro Bowls and helped it win Super Bowl 11. Although Tatum’s trademark was his fierce, physical play in the secondary, he also had good hands, racking up 37 career interceptions. |
Jets the Latest with Interest in Free Agent WR Terrell Owens Posted: 27 Jul 2010 06:31 AM PDT
The Jets contacted Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and Schefter reports that New York has even gone as far to debate the idea of inviting Owens to training camp. Also, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Monday night that the Bengals have extended an offer to Owens and that he and Rosenhaus like the team's situation. The Bengals are hoping for an answer in the next 48 hours. |
