Bills First Round Pick RB Spiller Remains Unsigned and Not at Camp Posted: 02 Aug 2010 06:55 PM PDT The Buffalo Bills have begun to strap on the helmets and pads, and we've even seen tempers flare in the early stages of training camp. What we haven't seen, however, is the Bills' shiny new toy, first round draft choice C.J. Spiller and the excitement he brings each time he gets his hands on a football. Four days have come and gone, and Spiller remains unsigned and off the practice field. He's now the lone first round selection who hasn't signed in the AFC East, as the New York Jets and defensive back Kyle Wilson have agreed on a five-year deal on the eve of Jets training camp. Miami and DT Jared Odrick previously came to terms, as did New England and their first round choice, DB Devin McCourty. While Spiller's absence is noticeable, it's hopeful that he won't remain absent from training camp for nearly as long as Aaron Maybin was a year ago. Maybin, who was the Bills' first round choice in 2009, missed four weeks of training camp that amounted to 24 practices and two preseason games. Spiller is just one of six first-round picks without a contract. He joins Detroit's Ndamukong Suh (No.2 pick), Seattle's Russell Okung (6th pick), Cincinnati's Jermaine Gresham (21st pick), Arizona's Dan Williams (26th pick) and Indianapolis' Jerry Hughes (31nd pick). |
Former Bears DE Ogunleye Works Out for Patriots Posted: 02 Aug 2010 06:53 PM PDT A league source has told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the New England Patriots worked out former Chicago Bears defensive end Adewale Ogunleye on Sunday. With the depth at outside linebacker and lack of a pass rushing defensive end a major concern, the Patriots have been rotating a group of outside linebackers at practice, which includes Tully Banta-Cain, Pierre Woods, Jermaine Cunningham and Rob Ninkovich. The Patriots apparently have shown interest in adding Ogunleye to that mix. Their interest can certainly be attributed to the fact that defensive end Derrick Burgess unexpectedly did not show up for camp, and is contemplating retirement. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Ogunleye started 14 games last season and registered 6.5 sacks. He ended last season on injured reserve with a small fracture in his fibula. He turns 33 on Aug. 9. |
Jaguars and First Round Pick Alualu Come to Terms Posted: 02 Aug 2010 10:32 AM PDT According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, Jaguars first round pick Tyson Alualu has agreed to terms with the team on a five-year, $28 Million deal with $17.5 Million guaranteed. The Jaguars had announced the deal Sunday night, but Alualu’s agent said that no decision had been made on the offer. Glazer says Alualu wanted to sleep on it and discuss it with his family before accepting it. Alualu, a defensive end out of California, was the tenth overall pick of the draft. |

Tests to Hopefully Shed Light on Ravens OT Gaither Posted: 02 Aug 2010 10:21 AM PDT The drama surrounding Offensive Tackle Jared Gaither has taken another interesting turn over the past few days. Gaither is expected to be sent Monday for blood tests to determine why he mas missed two straight days of practice. Initially when Gaither was carted off the field during the week it was explained away as "cramps". Since then the 6?9? lineman still hasn't been back on the field and no one seems to know why. It's interesting to note that Gaither only practiced a few times in the off-season due to a foot injury. He then reported to camp almost 30 pounds lighter than the year before. Does any of this have anything to due with Gaither's inability to practice? I have no idea and neither does the team. While the loss of Domonique Foxworth has been the headline in camp to go along with several Corners who are on the mend, the Offensive Tackle position has been snake bit as well. Oneil Cousins is still on the PUP due to his off season surgery to remove a cyst from his esophagus and both Tony Moll and Stefan Rodgers are injured. That leaves only Michael Oher, Joe Reitz and rookie Ramon Harewood as the only healthy tackles able to practice. It's another situation that bears watching during this young camp. |
