All Signs Point To Redskins Releasing QB Donovan McNabb

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 07:46 PM PDT

Quarterback Donovan McNabb is not a hot commodity, after bombing with the Redskins and signing a contract extension that will likely make him untradeable. Adam Caplan from Fox Sports reported this weekend what many NFL watchers have been speculating, that the Redskins will probably cut McNabb when the NFL gets back to business.

McNabb’s problem is that he is owned a lot of money under his current deal if he is a Redskin on Week 2 of the season and anyone getting McNabb in a trade inherits his contract. For McNabb, the good news is that plenty of team need a quarterback but the bad news is that Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb is a hot commodity this offseason and will be going to a place like Arizona, Minnesota or Seattle, the places McNabb would like to play at. Instead, McNabb’s choices would be Buffalo, Cincinnati, and Oakland, as a stop-gap quarterback who would take a beating as those teams develop a younger player.

Eagles OL Jason Peters Arrested in Louisiana

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 06:42 PM PDT

Another Eagles offensive lineman was arrested, this time it was Pro-Bowl left tackle Jason Peters. According to sources, Peters was in Shreveport Louisiana spending time with rapper Rick Ross at one his concerts, when he was arrested. Peters was originally arrested for disturbing the peace, which stemmed from playing music in his car too loud. Then the charges have escalated since then and he is facing resisting arrest charges.

When Peters was approached by police, he refused to show ID, and it eventually led to his arrest. Later that night, when Peters was already arrested, Ross was arrested for possession of marijuana, after a someone reported a strong odor from his hotel room at the Hilton.

Peters is the Eagles best offensive lineman, and there has been no word from the league office on what his punishment will be. This is also the second Eagles offensive lineman to be arrested this offseason, the first being King Dunlap. No word from the Eagles organization on how they plan on handling the issue.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant Apologizes For Incident At Mall

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 05:39 PM PDT

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is welcome to shop at the mall again after NorthPark Center officials dropped their ban on the Cowboys wide receiver Friday. Bryant was ejected from the upscale Dallas shopping center last Saturday and given a criminal trespass warning following a dispute over the sagging pants allegedly worn by him and some companions. “Mr. Bryant is welcome to join the millions of valued customers who shop and dine at NorthPark Center,” mall spokesman David Margulies told The Dallas Morning News on Friday evening.

“NorthPark Center considers last weekend’s issues to be closed.” A police statement released Tuesday said officers working off-duty Saturday as security at NorthPark Center encountered Bryant and three companions and asked them to pull up their trousers. The report states Bryant then launched into a profanity-laced tirade that prompted the officers to escort him and his friends from the mall.

Margulies said Thursday that the police report was correct in stating that mall security issued an oral criminal trespass warning to Bryant on the day of the incident, but Margulies said Friday night's statement “provides notice that the criminal trespass warning is a moot issue,” according to The Morning News. “To all my fans I apologize for what’s been going on…the situation is behind me..moving forward to this upcoming year,” Bryant tweeted Friday.

San Francisco Interested in Bucs Backup QB Josh Johnson?

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 05:16 PM PDT

Pro Football Weekly reports that the Niners could have interest in Bucs QB Josh Johnson, a guy that played for new Niners coach Jim Harbaugh at the Univ of SD.

Word is new Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh could be interested in Buccaneers backup QB Josh Johnson, who played for Harbaugh at the University of San Diego. Although Johnson’s pro career hasn’t anything to write home about, he did toss 42 touchdowns against only one pick as a senior. The 49ers have a league high 12 draft picks and could easily work out a trade with Tampa Bay to acquire the backup.

Ravens Player Rep Matt Birk Thinks the 2011 Season Will Start on Time

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 05:09 PM PDT

Ravens center and player representative Matt Birk believes the 2011 regular season will start on time, Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. “I’m sure that will take some time, but … I don’t see there’s any reason why we wouldn’t be playing games in September, starting in September, starting the first week,” said Birk. “The season will start on time, I have to believe.”

Hartman shares Birk’s thoughts on the owner’s latest proposal, an 18-game regular season schedule, and the possibility of the NFL using replacement players if the lockout continues through the summer. “It just comes down to the revenue split,” Birk said. “It doesn’t matter how you slice it, it’s the revenue split between the owners and the players. That’s essentially today and moving forward. The owners say they’re not making enough money, but they’re basically just telling the players to take their word for it. Without any proof, that’s tough to do.”

Browns Want Colt McCoy to Be the Starting QB in 2011

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 04:52 PM PDT

It would seem to be that at the age of 36, Jake Delhomme would appear to be at the stage of his career where he would make an ideal backup, but it's starting to look like he either will be brought back to Cleveland as a starter, or he won't be brought back at all.

Dan Pompei of the National Football Post writes that his Browns sources tells him everyone really wants Colt McCoy to be the starter, but if the work stoppage drags on into the summer, McCoy, a second year player, might not have enough time to learn what he needs to learn and prove to new head coach Pat Shurmur that he's ready to start. In that case, the team will likely feel more comfortable with the veteran Delhomme.

Bringing him back to Cleveland as a backup is complicated but Delhomme has told the team he has no intention of being a backup. He wants to start and that means he might not be willing to take a paycut, and he's probably making too much to be brought back as a No. 2.

Joe Ellis Says Broncos V.P. John Elway Has Already Exceeded Expectations

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 04:13 PM PDT

Albert Breer of NFL Network spoke with Broncos president Joe Ellis about the set-up a couple months ago, and he was hopeful that executive vice president John Elway would learn on the job, and that they would find the right coach. In Ellis’ mind, he now has answers in both those areas, and he thinks the fans are responding. “There’s a renewed sense of spirit in our building, but more importantly in our community, just in the hiring of John Elway and the bringing-on of an experienced coach who’s got a lot of respect around the league and a lot of great qualities,” Ellis said.

“It’s been a very good match for our organization. I did say to you a few months ago that (Elway) knew what he didn’t know. “But I think everybody’s found out that he knows a lot more than we thought he might know.” What Ellis says he’s found is a passionate football guy in Elway, and one who’d done a lot of groundwork to prepare for the position he’s been thrust into. Back in January, Ellis told Breer that Elway’s job would be to set the football culture and make sure that side of the building was always pulling in the same direction. What he may not have known is how smoothly Elway would operate as an NFL executive.

“It’s something I think he’s planned for,” Ellis said. “It probably took a lot longer to get to this point than he wanted it to, but now that it has happened, he has conducted himself like he certainly was ready for it and expected to succeed. And he’ll be first to tell you, it comes down to performance on the field. We gotta win, and we all know that. But from what we’ve seen so far, he’s setting the table the right way.

“I think what he saw as a player when (Elway) was with the Broncos in the 80s and the 90s was a team that really conducted itself and behaved like a family. I want us to get that feeling back, that unity back, where everybody has each other’s back and everybody works together, and there’s no hidden agendas and we’re all on the same page moving forward. And I really think between he and John Fox and Brian Xanders, we’ve got that in place.”

Former Jaguars WR Sims-Walker Wants to Play for the Dolphins

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 03:44 PM PDT

When free agency finally does open up, Mike Sims-Walker will be one of the most coveted wide receivers available. The 26-year-old was plagued by injury and inconsistency in his four years as a Jaguar, but he showed in 2009 that, when healthy and in rhythm, he's one of the more dynamic possession targets in the game (he caught 63 passes for 869 yards that year). So on which team does Sims-Walker hope to end up?

His recent tweet was pretty revealing: "RT @BMarshall19: @MikeSimsWalker where r u taking ur talents?< I’m trying to pull a lebron *hint*" Sims-Walker and current Dolphins wideout Brandon Marshall are best friends from their days together at Central Florida. The Dolphins could use a little more juice at the wide receiver position, but Sims-Walker probably wouldn't be the best fit as his style of play is nearly identical to Marshall's.

Buffalo to Chat with Auburn DL Nick Fairley

Posted: 27 Mar 2011 03:27 PM PDT

The Bills official web site points out that the Bills are slated to speak to Auburn DL Nick Fairley.

It's that time of the year when the top prospects make the rounds for pre-draft visits as NFL clubs tie up any remaining loose ends on elite players. The Bills could very well be doing that with a host of other clubs drafting in the top 10 on Auburn DL Nick Fairley.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Fairley will visit with eight of the NFL teams drafting in the top 10 this spring. The report doesn't identify the teams specifically, and just about every team in the top 10 has defensive line needs.
