Colts with Interest in Former Bears DT Tommie Harris? Posted: 16 Apr 2011 01:10 PM PDT Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune suggests via Twitter that ex-Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris will sign as a free agent with the Indianapolis Colts as soon as the lockout ends. The rumor has immediately garnered interest as Harris would be a natural fit for the Colts’ defensive scheme, which resembles the Bears, and because the Colts rarely dip into the fee agent pool for talent. Harris was a standout for the Bears until a plague of injuries that began in 2007. Although only 28, few knowledgeable football people believe Harris has much left in the tank because of his injuries. He played only sporadically for the Bears in the 2010 season after being benched from the starting lineup and was released on February 28th. |
Is Texans GM Rick Smith the New Matt Millen? Posted: 16 Apr 2011 12:43 PM PDT XLog.com writer and NFL scout Jayson Braddock has labeled Houston Texans GM Rick Smith as the "New Matt Millen." Millen, a four-time Super Bowl winner, is most notably known for his seven-season general manager stint with the Detroit Lions. In Detroit, Millens' Lions went 31-81 and encountered some of the worst management moves the NFL has ever seen under one general manager. His draft failures include Joey Harrington, Kevin Jones, Drew Stanton and receivers Charles Rogers, Roy Williams and Mike Williams in back-to-back-to-back first round picks from 2003 to 2005. Braddock had the following to say of Smith in comparison of Millen:

Mike Brown Hopes Bengals QB Palmer Plays For Cincinnati In 2011 Posted: 16 Apr 2011 11:42 AM PDT
But this explains the expectation that Cincinnati would pass on Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert if he’s available with the fourth pick in the draft. Sources tell Judge that the Bengals “won’t consider” trading Palmer this year, because Brown “is not convinced Palmer is leaving.” Cincinnati Enquirer reporter Joe Reedy foresees the Bengals drafting a quarterback early in the second round. |
Dilfer Says It’s a No-Brainer for Buffalo to Take Cam Newton Posted: 16 Apr 2011 10:31 AM PDT Earlier today during ESPN's "On the Clock" series which chronicles all 32 NFL teams and their needs on draft day, the Buffalo Bills were on the clock and roundtable discussion of what diretion the Bills could or should head. Draft analyst Mel Kiper believes that Buffalo will look for perhaps the most dynamic, natural pass rusher in the draft, OLB Von Miller from Texas A & M. Kiper also feels that if the Bills believe current quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is the right guy to have under center, then they don't have to use their third choice on Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert and address their defensive deficiencies with the third pick. Here comes the rub. In talking with head coach Chan Gailey, Chris Mortensen stated that even though Gailey wouldn't rule out a quaterback as a possibility at No.3, Gailey believes the Bills can win a championship with Fitzpatrick. Apparently, Trent Dilfer isn't buying what Gailey's attempting to sell. Dilfer said that Fitzpatrick could be the answer for the Bills, but strictly in a short term period for a window of a couple years. He firmly demonstrated his support fo Cam Newton, even going as far to say that if he's available at No.3, "it would be a no-brainer for the Bills to select Newton". Here's a bit of Dilfer's reasoning as to why he makes so much sense for the Buffalo provided he's still available… "His unique skill set is going to fit Buffalo. He spins the ball at an incredibly high rate. He can knife it through the wind and the bad weather. His physicality in the run game will help them in bad-weather games, in the short-yardage game. " What about it Bills fans? Let me hear what you think. Do you agree with Dilfer's assessment and Newton's the guy for the Bills if he's there at No.3, or do you go Kiper's route, fix your pass rush problem with the addition of Miller?
