Could Minnesota Be in the Hunt for Broncos QB Orton? Posted: 17 May 2011 03:24 PM PDT
The Vikings did spend a first-round pick on quarterback Christian Ponder, but it is still assumed that they will attempt to go after a veteran quarterback as insurance if Ponder isn't ready to start in the NFL right away. Orton should be familiar to Minnesota fans, having previously played for the Vikings division rival while he was with Chicago and he also spent a fair amount of time in the Upper Midwest while he was a collegiate quarterback for the Purdue Boilermakers. Speculation is that Denver could be asking as much as a second-round draft pick as compensation for Orton. |
Patriot Fans Select QB Drew Bledsoe for the Teams Hall of Fame Posted: 17 May 2011 12:37 PM PDT
Bledsoe won by the largest percentage of votes since they opened the process up to fans. Also on this year’s ballot were former head coach Bill Parcells and star AFL defensive lineman Houston Antwine. “Drew Bledsoe played such an integral role in our efforts to rebuild the Patriots brand,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a statement. “He gave fans hope for the future and provided many memorable moments during his record-breaking career. “I will never forget Drew’s record-setting performance in that come-from-behind victory against Minnesota the year I bought the team. It sparked a seven-game win streak and put the Patriots back in the playoffs for the first time in a decade. For a franchise that had only hosted one playoff game in its first 35 years, winning the AFC Championship Game at home in Foxboro and taking the Patriots to the playoffs for three consecutive years were unimaginable goals prior to his arrival.” The Patriots made Bledsoe the No. 1 pick in 1993. He spent nine seasons with the Patriots, throwing for 44,611 yards and 251 touchdowns. |
Vikings New QB Ponder Setting Up Workouts with Teammates Posted: 17 May 2011 10:01 AM PDT
Ponder, the 12th overall pick from Florida State, already had planned a workout with Harvin in Tampa when Rice inquired about joining them through Twitter direct messaging. Rice spends part of his offseason in Miami, and Harvin is working out in the Tampa area. “I hope it happens,” Ponder said. “That’s something I’m looking forward to. It’d be great to spend time with those guys on the field.” Rice might be a restricted free agent, depending on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. If unrestricted, the former Pro Bowl player is free to go to the highest bidder. Click HERE to read the rest |
Radio Host Rush Limbaugh Comes Out in Defense of Donovan McNabb Posted: 17 May 2011 09:17 AM PDT
Here are excerpts from Limbaugh’s comments: “This is just the latest in what has been a long line of attacks on Donovan McNabb from black individuals and organizations. There’s a black preacher in Philadelphia that dumped all over McNabb for not being black enough. … Now this guy, Bernard Hopkins, says McNabb’s not black enough — and you know what the argument is? Here’s what it is. They have accused — and I can’t use the term. It’s a purely totally unacceptable term, but they refer to McNabb by using the N-word, and they say he’s a sellout; that McNabb befriends the white power brokers of the Eagles. When he was with the Eagles and now he’s with the Redskins, they say that he’s not down for the struggle with the players; that he ingratiates himself with the powers that be. They also, this guy Bernard Hopkins, got mad at McNabb’s parents for raising him in an unconventional way, meaning not the traditional ‘hood way — and in the final line here, “He got a suntan, that’s all.” He’s not really black. … Yeah, and didn’t pull off being “one of the brothers,” apparently. That’s what all this means. He didn’t succeed in being one of the brothers.” |

Top Pre-Season Prospects for 2012 Draft – Offense Posted: 17 May 2011 08:40 AM PDT 1. Andrew Luck, Jr, Stanford, 6'4 235, 2. Matt Barkley, Jr, USC, 6'2 220 3. Landry Jones, Jr, Oklahoma, 6'4 220 4. Ryan Lindley, Sr, San Diego State, 6'4 215 5. Terrelle Pryor, Sr, Ohio State, 6'6 235 Players to Watch: Kirk Cousins, Sr, Michigan State 6'3 205, Nick Foles, Sr, Arizona 6'5 245, Brandon Weeden, Sr, Oklahoma St., 6'4 220, Ryan Tannehill, Sr, Texas A&M, 6'4 219 Comments: Besides Andrew Luck the quarterback class as a whole will need this season to validate another early first round selection. The one positive is that more of these prospects have experience in a pro style offense compared to last year's class. Teams will be able to assess the quarterback's ability to drive back from center, set their feet, go through progressions, and deliver the football with timing. Running Back
1. Knile Davis, Jr, Arkansas, 6'0 220 2. Trent Richardson, Jr, Alabama, 5'11 220 4. Cyrus Gray, Sr, Texas A&M, 5'10 200 5. LaMichael James, Jr, Oregon, 5'8 185 Players to Watch: Chris Polk, Jr, Washington, 5'11 215, Dan (Boom) Herron, Ohio State, Sr, 5'10 205, Isaiah Pead, Sr, Cincinnati, 5'10 200, Jeff Demps, Jr, Florida 5'8 190 Comments: The running back position seems to be dropping in value with most teams employing a heavy rotation system to their backfield. Knile Davis looks to be an early first round selection as long as he remains healthy. There's plenty of speed and quickness in this draft class with many of these running backs able to separate from defenders at the second level. Wide Receivers
1. Justin Blackmon, Jr, Oklahoma State, 6'1 210 2. Alshon Jeffery, Jr, South Carolina, 6'4 232 3. Jeff Fuller, Sr, Texas A&M, 6'3 215 4. Michael Floyd, Sr, Notre Dame, 6'3 228 5. Greg Childs, Sr, Arkansas, 6'3 217 Players to Watch: Mohamed Sanu, Jr, Rutgers, 6'2 218, DeVier Posey, Sr, Ohio State, 6'2 213, Russell Shepard, Jr, LSU, 6'0 188, Ryan Broyles, Sr, Oklahoma 5'11 185, Jermaine Kearse, Sr, Washington, 6'2 205, Chris Owusu, Sr, Stanford, 6'2 200, Comments: The wide receiver position is loaded with talent this year. If everyone performs up to their capabilities there could be 5 or 6 receivers drafted in the first round, and up to 15 players drafted in the first three rounds. It's the most impressive class of receivers that I can remember coming into a season when you consider talent level and depth. Tight End
1. Michael Egnew, Sr, Missouri, 6'6 235 2. George Bryan, Sr, North Carolina State, 6'5 264 3. Orson Charles, Jr, Georgia, 6'3 240 4. Dwayne Allen, Jr, Clemson, 6'4 255 5. Coby Fleener, Sr, Stanford, 6'6 248 Players to Watch: David Paulson Sr, Oregon 6'4 241, Rhett Ellison, Sr, USC, 6'5 245, David Duran, Sr, Coastal Carolina, 6'5 240, Ladarius Green, Sr, Louisiana-Lafayette 6'6 230. Offensive Tackle
1. Matt Kalil, Jr, USC, 6'6 295 2. Jonathan Martin, Jr, Stanford, 6'6 305 3. Levy Adcock, Sr, Oklahoma St, 6'5 318 4. Mike Adams, Sr, Ohio State, 6'8 305 5. Matt Reynolds, Sr, BYU, 6'6 322 Players to Watch: Nate Potter, Sr, Boise State, 6'6 295, Kelechi Osemele, Sr, Iowa State, 6'5 335, Andrew Datko, Sr, Florida State 6'6 305, Riley Reiff, Jr, Iowa 6'6 300, Comments: Matt Kalil and Jonathan Martin are both at the top of the class and should be battling for the top spot throughout the season. The tackle class lacks the elite athlete we saw in Tyron Smith last year or Russell Okung two seasons ago. But there are plenty of very good, well-balanced prospects available that can raise their stock this year. Interior Lineman
1. Kevin Zeitler, Sr, OG, Wisconsin, 6'4 312 2. Ben Jones, Sr, OC, Georgia, 6'3 315 3. Rokevious Watkins, Sr, OG, South Carolina, 6'4 325 4. Cordy Glenn, Sr, OG, Georgia, 6'5 330 5. Mike Brewster, Sr, OC, Ohio State, 6'5 295 Players to Watch: David DeCastro, Jr, OG, Stanford, 6'5 312, Stephen Good, Sr, OG, Oklahoma 6'6 300, Chris Jacobson, Sr, OG, Pittsburgh 6'3 290, William Vlachos, Sr, OC, Alabama 6'1 290 Comments: This will be a good draft class for interior lineman. There's plenty of depth and experience available throughout the draft. There isn't a player with the size/quickness/strength combination of Mike or Maurkice Pouncey, but there are a few first round caliber players available that project to be long term starters. |
Saints GM Loomis Says Team Wants Bush Back in 2011 Posted: 17 May 2011 08:11 AM PDT
“But we’ll deal with that when we’re able to talk to Reggie and his agent again.” Bush and his agent, Joel Segal, cannot negotiate with the club right now because of the lockout, which could drag on for months. Bush is due about $11.8 million for the 2011 season, but the Saints expect him to take a pay cut. Bush said he remains willing to negotiate, as he initially stated after the season but he stopped short of saying he was confident a deal would be reached. “That’s something that me, my agent and the Saints have to collectively come together and talk about and just come to a meeting point, a happy medium,” Bush said. “Obviously, we know that there’s going to have to be some type of pay cut and there’s going to have to be some type of re-negotiation.” |

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell: Negotiation, not Litigation Posted: 17 May 2011 06:22 AM PDT That is Roger Goodell’s take on what is needed to resolve the NFL work stoppage, and the league’s commissioner is taking his message to fans in a series of forums to address their questions, concerns and even frustrations. Goodell’s equivalent of a fireside chat came to the Seahawks on Friday, when he responded to queries from 18 of almost 4,000 season-ticket holders who called in to take part in the event. “There’s not enough negotiation, there’s too much litigation right now,” said Goodell, adding that he will be in Minnesota early next week to take part in some mediation aimed at getting a new CBA between the league and its players.
