The PADI IDC on Gili Air in Indonesia for April 2011 is in the bag!

Two days ago already, the first IDC with Oceans 5 on Gili Air in Indonesia has been bagged. Due to hard work (Instructor Specialty training) and limited internet access I couldn't update my blog before today.

This IDC has been great fun and the facilities at Oceans 5 are fantastic when it comes down to teaching. Especially the 25 meter long, custom build swimming pool is fab! Sander and Simone are doing a great job out here!

As usual it was an international affair with Camille; Anna is from Germany, Cécile is from France and Simone is from the Netherlands. Phil, who completed his IDCS course is from the UK.

Diving around the Gili islands is also a treat, during the specialty instructor training we had fantastic dives and an update will follow soon.

We completed training in the classroom, the candidates presented knowledge development, confined and open water presentations, theory exams and a General Standards & Procedures exam was administered and plenty of workshops were given; control, descents, rescue, DSD etc.

For me it was interesting since this was the first time that I taught an OWSI program, all 4 candidates where already Assistant Instructor before they started the IDC part that I conducted. We did throw in some additional training though but Sander did a real good job preparing them.

The PADI IE will be conducted on 10th and 11th May and the three girls, Anna, Cécile and Simone will participate, Jamal will need to work more on his theoretical knowledge before he can confidently go into an IE, we're aiming at the next IDC on Gili Air during June for Jamal to take his exam.

If you're interested in participating in one of my PADI IDC's, the next one is scheduled to start on Koh Samui, an IDC is starting there 12th May, followed by the second IDC on Gili Air, starting 16th June followed by an additionally scheduled IDC starting 1st July on Koh Samui again and than an IDC in Osan, South Korea, starting 20th July. A busy schedule ahead so don't miss out!
