Indianapolis Hires Dennis Polian As Director Of Football Administration Posted: 14 Jun 2011 06:37 PM PDT
Owner Jim Irsay confirmed Monday that the 34-year-old Polian has been hired by the team. He will be be the teams expert on rules deriving from the collective bargaining agreement currently being negotiated between owners and players, budgeting, contract proposals and reporting transactions and all daily communications with the NFL office. “It’s a job we pieced through a couple different offices, but it’s something we’re going to have a dedicated person for moving forward,” Chris Polian said. “With what he’s been through having to manage the Tulane situation through Katrina, I know he’s going to be able to handle what we throw at him.” Dennis spent the past two years as assistant to the head coach with the Vikings. He has worked in the NFL, CFL, AFL and at the college level, primarily in administrative capacities. |
New CBA Deal Looks Promising for Around the 4th of July Posted: 14 Jun 2011 05:12 PM PDT
The NFL and locked out players have made enough progress in their recent negotiations that a deal between the two sides is within reach during the next two or three weeks, people on both sides of the dispute said Tuesday. Owners of the 32 teams, scheduled to attend a meeting in Chicago Tuesday, have been told to leave their schedules open in case the session runs late that night or spills over into the following day, said several people who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deliberations are at a sensitive stage.
It is possible–but very unlikely–that the owners could vote on a labor deal at that meeting, said several of the people, who did not participate in the talks but are familiar with developments. It is more likely, they said, that owners could give negotiators their opinions and a deal with the players could be completed the following week. A deal that week, just before the July 4 holiday, appears increasingly realistic, said people on both sides of the dispute. |
Jaguars Won’t Be Moving to Los Angeles Posted: 14 Jun 2011 04:03 PM PDT
"I have no interest [in Los Angeles]," Weaver told Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union Tuesday as he repeated a statement he made in the past. A Los Angeles official listed Jacksonville last week as one of five teams it has talked to, but Weaver noted that Sports Business Daily didn't even mention Jacksonville when it reported on teams interested in Los Angeles on Monday. "That's the real story," Weaver said. Weaver added, "I have been consistent in saying I am committed to Jacksonville and have no interest [in moving]," he said. "We have to work hard and be more creative because we're in a small market in a difficult economy with high unemployment rates and a housing crisis that is more difficult than in other cities," Weaver said. |
Former OSU QB Pryor Says He’s Entering the NFL Supplemental Draft Posted: 14 Jun 2011 03:47 PM PDT
“Terrelle Pryor will be a great — not a good quarterback — a great quarterback in the National Football League,” his new agent Drew Rosenhaus said. “He is going to be a star. This experience that he has gone through will galvanize him and make him a better person, a stronger person.” Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he expects Pryor to go in the first round of the Supplemental Draft, something that most NFL GM’s don’t seem to agree with. Pryor did say he was sorry to his former school – Ohio State – over all the things that he was involved with that eventually led to coach Jim Tressel stepping down. “I say sorry to all the Buckeye nation and all the Buckeye fans across the country,” Pryor said. “I never meant to hurt anybody directly or indirectly with my conduct off the field and I am truly sorry.” ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reiterated that Pryor is seen as no more than a mid-round pick and several GM’s told Mortensen that they want to be sure Pryor is willing to consider a move to a “Jermichael Finley-type” of tight end down the line if they’re going to use a supplemental pick this year. |
A Couple Free Agents That Would Be a Fit in Tampa Bay Posted: 14 Jun 2011 08:10 AM PDT The top free agent the Bucs have that need re-signing are Barrett Ruud and right guard Davin Joseph. I think Barrett Ruud is a very valuable player. Beyond that, here are two names I think would look great in Tampa. Terrell Owens, WR. He's often thought of as a bad teammate, but he does make friends within the receivers group at each stop. He sure didn't make a lot of money in Cincinnati last year and I think he can be had for cheaper this year. What does he bring you? Size and speed. Moreover, I really feel like the Bucs' four-receiver set becomes very deadly when they keep bringing strong height and upper body strength combined with a quarterback who can scramble and rocket. Danieal Manning, FS. He's got experience in the Tampa 2, he covers a lot of ground, he's athletic and can score when he gets a turnover. This would mean cutting ties with Tanard JAckson and turning over a new leaf. |
