A Dream Scenario: Seahawks to Sign Leonard Davis? Posted: 30 Aug 2011 03:41 AM PDT The title is probably going to get misconstrued by some, so let me preface this by saying… No, I am not “dreaming” that the Seahawks sign Leonard Davis. Certainly, with their protection woes during the pre-season they could certainly use a capable starting caliber player but I am not clamoring for them to sign him. By all means, he is, I guess, a “name”. He was a top 10 guard several years back and has been to the pro bowl and been a starter for awhile. That being said, his best days are behind him and there are reasons why even the veteran loving Cowboys parted ways with him and he has not been signed to this point. Anyway, during a dream last night I clearly remember seeing some sort of news flash or something on the television about the Seahawks signing Davis. The thing that won’t happen is the fact it was for 5 years (which even in the dream I thought was odd.. Are we in Inception here?), but nonetheless, it would very interesting to see if they signed him or recently released Andre Gurode in the coming days, or any Cowboys offensive lineman of note. If it does happen, well, by a stroke of luck you heard it here first! It does go against the Carroll philosophy of getting younger, but even during a youth movement you still need veteran leadership and I don’t believe there is a Seahawk over the age of 30 on the active roster. Davis, 33, would not detriment an overall youth movement and given the fact Tyler Polumbus is the best backup lineman they have, I wouldn’t rule it as being completely implausible. If you take Robert Gallery out of the equation, the other four offensive lineman have a grand total of 27 starts amongst them; long story short, they could use some veteran depth.

Arian Foster Massacres ESPN’s Colin Cowherd Posted: 29 Aug 2011 11:53 PM PDT I try to tune out the rhetoric of the NFL as much as possible, it’s my favorite sport, but the “reality TV show” aspect of some of the off field drama just gets old after awhile. When it comes to these twitter wars, which were especially newsworthy during the lockout, I try not to promote them because I think their dumb, shallow, and somewhat meaningless. I mean, Antonio Cromartie telling Matt Hasselbeck he’s going to smash his face in kind of loses it’s flare when the guy comes out several months later listing the team that guy might quarterback as someone (Seahawks) he’s interested in. The one that takes the cake as far as criticism has to be the Osama tweet by a certain Steelers player… But I mean, this one is damn scintilating, witty, and downright awesome. I give it the NFL tweet of the year to be perfectly frank. If you’re a fantasy football player or a Houston Texans fan you have probably heard about how Foster got pissed at some fans for worrying about his injury for “fantasy” reasons instead of “sincere” reasons:
ArianFosterArian Foster 4 those sincerely concerned, I’m doing ok & plan 2 B back by opening day. 4 those worried abt your fantasy team, u ppl are sick In comes a response from ESPN’s Colin Cowherd, who many, many, and I mean many people regard as an ass. I have no personal feelings of hatred towards the man, but can certainly see where he gets the reputation from the several times I have seen his broadcasts.
ESPN_ColinColin Cowherd Hey Arian Foster— ‘We really do care about you as a human too. Um,now about that hammy? –signed, everybody Ok, that’s just him being him, which is being an ass, but here comes the fun part, and Cowherd certainly deserves it: ArianFosterArian Foster Did you want to be a critic as a child? Or did your dreams die with your humility? RT @ESPN_Colin Hey Arian Foster-… Yikes! That one is going to make a lot more headlines. |
Packers 2011 Preseason Game 3: Studs/Duds Posted: 29 Aug 2011 09:40 PM PDT By Packers Gab Columnist Billy Needham The third preseason game is now done, with the Packers beating the Colts in stylish fashion, 24-21. The offense got a 10-0 lead pretty quickly, then one of our young defenders made a pathetic mistake (more on this later), and the comeback had begun. The game got increasingly frustrating, with a stale offense, an offensive line that proves once again it cannot block for a 3rd and 1 play, shoddy QB protection, shoddy coverage, and so on and so on and so on. Then, with 3:45 left in the game, down by 8 points, Graham Harrell and the offense came alive, driving the field, and scoring the tying TD and two point conversion. Then, that sneaky McCarthy called a surprise on-sides kick, recovered it, and the offense drove 30 yards to kick the game winning FG, whoa! There were a few guys who stood out in the middle of this mess, and a few who were exploited. Here is a quick glance of who shined and who's light may be burning out…… STUD: It is kind of a given but Aaron Rodgers is definitely in mid-season form, Fu Manchu and all. He was really sharp throughout the first half (19-23, 204 yards, 1 TD) even with a nice 30 yard TD called back for holding. He spread the ball around, even without Greg Jennings there, he looked like the reigning Superbowl MVP! Click HERE to read the rest |
Seahawks Trade 1st Round Bust Kelly Jennings to Bengals Posted: 29 Aug 2011 08:26 PM PDT There is a god, Kelly Jennings is no longer a Seattle Seahawk. They should re-name August 29th in his honor because fans will no longer have to watch him get absolutely torched on an annual basis. After a long day this was just the sort of thing to put a spring in my step, no longer will fans have to witness scenarios like the picture above. There couldn’t be a more fitting place for him to go to, my first guess was the Detroit Lions, but I wasn’t too far off because he’s headed to Cincinnati. I don’t even care that all they managed to get in return was defensive tackle Clinton McDonald, some random guy who had 4 tackles last season; this is addition by subtraction folks. I can guarantee you deep down inside Larry Fitzgerald is pissed off that he doesn’t get to face Jennings twice a year and has to face what by all means appears to be Mike Williams 2.0 in Brandon Browner. In fact, that should show just how little of a market there was for Jennings, not only did he go to arguably the worst team in the league, but Seattle couldn’t even get a proven role player in return. I don’t know about you, but I am more than looking forward to what these tall Carroll corners can do, Browner at 6″4 and Richard Sherman at 6″3, should make for some real interesting match-ups against four receiver sets. Note: Call me crazy, but during a dream last night I clearly remember seeing some sort of news flash or something on the television about the team signing guard Leonard Davis. The thing that won’t happen is the fact it was for 5 years (which even in the dream I thought was odd), but nonetheless, it would very interesting to see if they signed him or recently released Andre Gurode in the coming days. |
Eagles Ink QB Michael Vick to Six-Year Deal Worth $100 Million Posted: 29 Aug 2011 04:47 PM PDT Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Eagles have just come to terms with QB Michael Vick on a new contract that is good for six years and will pay the former Falcons QB $100 million dollars. $40 million of the contract is guaranteed. Vick last season led the Eagles to the playoffs, throwing for 3018 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. He added 676 yards on the ground with 9 touchdowns. |
Brady Quinn Moves Ahead of Tim Tebow for the Broncos Backup QB Spot Posted: 29 Aug 2011 04:43 PM PDT It was thought at most points of the summer that somehow, someway, Tim Tebow would end up as the starting QB for the Broncos. Then Kyle Orton didn’t get moved to the Dolphins, and then Tebow started quickly to fall out of favor with the upper management with the Broncos. Which leads to today’s news about the QB race in Denver, which shouldn’t be all that shocking considering how fast Tebow has been going backwards in the eyes of those inside the team. The news is that Brady Quinn is now clearly the backup to Orton, leaving Tebow to be the number three QB for Denver. More than in any workout during training camp and preseason, it was clear that Quinn was working exclusively with the number two offense at the Broncos’ workout Monday. Click HERE to read the rest |
Longtime Lions Beat Writer Tom Kowalski Passes Away Posted: 29 Aug 2011 03:05 PM PDT Longtime Detroit Lions beat writer Tom "Killer" Kowalski passed away this morning at the age of 51. "Uncle Killer" as he was known to his fans on the MLive.com message boards, was one of the most respected writers in the business and amongst readers. Kowalski not only covered the Lions since 1982, but he was also one of the 44 Pro Football Hall of Fame voters. Kowalski embraced his role covering a team with a passionate fan base, troubled by mediocre and terrible performances. His "Lunch with Killer" chats, frequent mailbag sessions and constant tweets created a strong bond with his readers as well as his honest and fair coverage of the hometown team. Kowalski's dry sense of humor and sarcasm eased the pain of so many bad moments for fans. Click HERE to read the rest |
Cincinncati RB Cedric Benson Sentenced to 20 Days in Jail Posted: 29 Aug 2011 03:01 PM PDT The Bengals will be without RB Cedric Benson for their October 30th game against the Seahawks. He was sentenced to 20 days in jail Monday after he and the court in Texas reached a deal to settle two misdemeanor assault cases Benson was in court in Austin and the deal was struck after a jury was selected. He said he will surrender to authorities October 17th. That’s the Monday of the Bengals bye week. The former Texas RB was arrested in 2010 for allegedly punching a bar employee in Austin, and he pleaded no contest to a charge of assault with injury in that case. He was also arrested last month for allegedly punching a former roommate in downtown Austin. He pleaded no contest to a charge of assault with bodily injury with family violence, and that will be dismissed if he performs 30 hours of community service and pays an undisclosed amount of restitution to the victim. Benson has been the Bengals' leading rusher since 2008. Last season he ran for 1111 yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground, and added one more receiving. |
Tennessee Puts RB Johnson on the Reserve/Did Not Report List Posted: 29 Aug 2011 02:53 PM PDT Last week the Titans met with RB Chris Johnson about his return to the team. After the talks basically went nowhere, the team today placed the running back on the reserve/did not report list. By doing so, the Titans free up an extra roster spot for the final preseason game. The administrative move has no impact on contract talks with Johnson, who met with the Titans last week but remains a holdout. Coach Mike Munchak said he hadn't heard of any changes in the talks. Steelers Name Kevin Colbert First GM in Team History Posted: 29 Aug 2011 02:28 PM PDT It only took 78 years and six titles for the Steelers to finally get with the times. That came on Monday when the team for the first time in their history named Kevin Colbert the teams General Manager. A red carpet wasn’t exactly rolled out for Colbert, as the team made the announcement by simply putting the title into the team media guide under Colbert’s bio, with no elaboration except to note Colbert is in “his first year as the team’s general manager.” Click HERE to read the rest |
